It's Rafa time. The 12-time champion is looking to draw level with Roger Federer on 20 Grand Slam titles with another victory at Roland Garros. He faces Egor Gerasimov in the opening round.

Nadal wraps things up in just over two hours.

It was competitive-ish for two sets but once Gerasimov fell on his ankle it was all over.

The errors keep coming from Gerasimov, who has really faded after that fall. He goes long to give Nadal another break.

Nadal looks as though he is soon going to wrap this up. He races through another service game to move a step closer to victory.

Gerasimov looks to be struggling a bit with that injury as he quickly falls 0-40 behind. His first serve goes low into the net and, although the second goes in, he then nets tamely to give Nadal the break.

After getting some treatment on his foot, Gerasimov is going to continue.

Gerasimov falls at 40-30 and looks to have hurt his foot as he slid to reach a forehand. He's getting it checked out by a member of the medical team.

A not so unexpected immediate break back from Nadal.

Gerasimov does well to stay in the last point and then has a chance at the net as he gets to a drop shot, but he nets. Perhaps a bit of tiredness after a long rally.

Oh what have we here? A couple of break points for Gerasimov, his first of the match.

He gets to 15-40 with a super cross-court backhand winner that catches the line and breaks as Nadal goes wide with a shot down the line.

Did not see that coming.

Gerasimov holds comfortably to start the third set.

The problem for the Belarusian, as Frew McMillan points out on commentary, is that "he's just not winning rallies against Nadal."

He needs to fix that to have any chance.

And that's another 6-4 set to Nadal, who has been so strong on serve.

He drops two points in the final game of the second set but Gerasimov then goes long to seal his fate.

Gerasimov is still giving it all and coming up with some good shots. He wrong foots Nadal with a well-struck backhand down the line and fires down an ace to win the game.

Nadal moves a step closer to the second set with another love hold. I haven't totted up how many times he's held to love but it must be in over 50 per cent of his service games.

Just as he did in the first set, Gerasimov is managing to keep it close, but he needs to do something on Nadal's serve to get into the match.

A point for Gerasimov against the serve as Nadal goes wide with a backhand, but that's it.

Nadal is really firing on the forehand side, pulling his opponent all over the court.

Gerasimov is looking quite good when he gets into the net, the problem is getting there. He manages to get forward a couple of times to take the game and stay just a single break behind.

This is dominant from Nadal on serve. He rattles through another love service game, firing a forehand winner into the corner to finish it off.

An opening for Nadal as he gets to 0-30, but Gerasimov earns himself a round of applause from those around Philippe Chatrier with a superb drop volley to claw himself back into the game.

Nadal wins an exchange at the net to earn break point and leave Gerasimov puffing.

Still no joy for Gerasimov as he can't win a point in this game. Nadal finishes off with an ace down the middle that just catches the line.
