Good afternoon and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE coverage of the French Open men's singles fourth round match between Hugo Gaston and Dominic Thiem. We'll bring you all the action as it happens at Roland Garros. Thiem is one of the frontrunners to go all way in Paris this year after his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open. Gaston will be a tricky opponent, though.

GASTON 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 3-6 THIEM
Thiem is into a fifth successive Roland Garros quarter final, but he had to work hard to get there! Gaston was fantastic. He's been fantastic all week long, beating Wawrinka and then taking the US Open champion to five sets. Thiem had to keep cool and trust his superior ability and that got him over the line in the end.

Thiem will serve for the match and a place in the quarter finals! A massive forehand cross-court brought up break point for the Austrian and then a misjudged drop shot saw the US Open champion take it. Is there one last twist in the tail here?

Thiem nudges the scoreboard again, but the US Open champion was under intense pressure again on his own serve. Thiem sticks away a winner at the net on game point after some very good defensive play. Will Gaston feel the pressure now? If he's broken, Thiem will serve for the match.

Thiem is remaining calm out there, but there's no doubting it's Gaston who has the momentum as the Frenchman keeps the scoreboard ticking over in this deciding set with another hold of serve. You can tell Thiem is frustrated, though, even if he is managing to keep it under wraps.

Thiem will feel this in the morning, whether he wins or loses this. Gaston is making great use of the drop shot and his Austrian opponent isn't enjoying it much. If there's one player that looks the brightest and most energetic, it's the guy who played a five setter in the last round!

It's non stop entertainment on Chatrier right now! A backhand winner, then a drop shot which drew Thiem to the net. Gaston finished the point to hold his serve with a lob over the head of the Austrian. This is incredible. Gaston is playing like the player likely to win this!

Incredible! We're going the distance here! Gaston has forced a fifth set. What an inventive, entertaining player the Frenchman is and what an atmosphere it is on Philippe Chatrier! Gaston won a five-setter against Wawrinka in the last round. Can the world number 239 do it again here?

Gaston is up a break in this fourth set and he is well and truly back in this match! Thiem has lost his way. The Austrian is going for his shots earlier in the rallies. Is that a sign that he is struggling physically? It certain looks that way at the moment.

Gaston had two break points on the Thiem serve, but couldn't take either of them and the Austrian serves his way out of trouble. There is no doubting it's the Frenchman with the momentum, and the crowd, behind him at this stage!

Fantastic from Gaston! He's certainly in this third set! Thiem had a break point opportunity, but the Frenchman is giving this everything he's got. Some stupendous drop shots. He's also sticking with Thiem in the rallies! He hasn't had this all his own way.

Ah, that's a shame! Just as Gaston had some momentum behind him, Thiem finds his forehand and rips a couple winners past the Frenchman to break back immediately and we're back on serve in this third set. Thiem has had to up his level! Gaston has forced him to.

Hello?! Gaston has a break in this third set and it had been coming! What a game that was! Net play, tweeners and then a clean forehand winner on break point! Gaston looks liberated and is now taking the match to Thiem who has actually started to look a bit weary!

Allez! Brilliant atmosphere on Philippe Chatrier as Gaston turns on the style to get out of trouble and hold his serve to apply some pressure on Thiem. The Austrian is in control, but there is a sense that the Frenchman is building something. He has some momentum!

Comfortable for Thiem now as he moves two sets ahead. The Austrian is one set away from a place in the quarter finals. Gaston still has the French crowd behind him, though. Some fantastic shot-making from the underdog. He has incredible imagination and has executed a lot!

Thiem takes a grip of the second set with a break. That was a disappointing end to the game from Gaston who landed a sliced forehand into the net when that wasn't the right shot selection. Thiem is now a set and a break up.

71% first serve percentage from Thiem in this second set. The Austrian is serving very well and that is giving him the advantage in the points against Gaston. However, Thiem is struggling with his returning, so it's a fairly even contest at the moment.

The US Open champion takes the first set in 40 minutes. Thiem just cranked things up towards the end of the set, but it must be said Gaston has not looked out of his depth so far. He is sticking with Thiem in the rallies and has shown some nice variety. A very entertaining player to watch.
