WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 6-3 - GAME, SET & MATCH! Serena batters a backhand down the line, after pushing Kuznetsova wide in the opposite direction, to bring up two match points. And she gets it on the first with a forehand drive volley winner across court after a Kuznetsova forehand a couple of shots earlier had caught the top of the net and sat up for the American, who was on the backfoot in the rally.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 5-3 - Kuznetsova does well to hold to 15 when Serena goes long down the centre of the court with a fairly routine backhand. Serena will still get the chance to serve for the match though.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 5-2 - Serena brings up three game points with a cross court backhand passing shot winner, Kuznetsova letting the ball go and being left to rue it as she could have played a volley there. Instead Serena goes on to hold to love with another backhand, this time inside out and on the drop shot. Kuznetsova will have to serve to stay in the match after the change of ends.

WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 4-2 - BREAK! Serena edges towards a place in the semi-finals when she leaps all over the Kuznetsova serve, sensing her time is now, and drilling back a couple of return winners to bring up break points. And sure enough the world number one does break with a backhand Kuznetsova cannot deal with.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 3-2 - Kuznetsova saves a first game point on Serena's serve with a forehand winner before the American squanders the second with a forehand long. Serena also fails to take advantage of the third by netting a forehand, but she eventually does hold at the fourth time of asking when Kuznetsova goes wide.

WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 2-2 - BREAK! Serena backs away from the ball and belts a forehand return of serve winner to bring up two break back points. She squanders the first with forehand well long of the baseline but manages to break back at the second attempt with a much better retrun that Kuznetsova cannot keep in play. Back on serve in this final set.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 1-2 - Kuznetsova can't quite take advantage of another break point when she goes wide with a cross court backhand drop shot attempt, having stayed in the game with some impressive defence. She gets another chance with a backhand winner down the line before going wide with another cross court backhand. Kuznetsova denies Serena on a number of game points, including one with a forehand return thumped across court, but eventually Serena goes on to hold.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 0-2 - Kuznetsova thumps another forehand down the centre of the court from out wide, landing the ball right on the baseline and resulting in Serena not being able to put response together despite being right there.

WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 0-1 - BREAK! Kuznetsova breaks to open the second set, her forehand again doing the damage as she moves Serena around the baseline with increasing ease.

WILLIAMS 6-1 3-6 - SET! Two more break points going begging for Serena, Kuznetsova saving the first with a forehand winner and then the second with a second serve ace. Serena earns herself a third with a forehand smash winner but again Kuznetsova saves it with a forehand winner. And the Russian goes on to seal the second set, and level the match, when Serena nets a backhand after doing well to get up to the net to a drop shot from Kuznetsova.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 3-5 - Serena sends Kuznetsova racing across the baseline to chase down a forehand, but the Russian can only put her response into the net and Serena holds. Kuznetsova will still have one more chance to serve out this second set.

WILLIAMS 6-1 2-5 - BREAK! Serena is a barely controlled ball of rage after gifting Kuznetsova that double break back and she batters a series of huge ground-strokes to break back with a forehand winner. She is still a break down, however, and first will have to serve to stay in this second set.

WILLIAMS 6-1 1-5 - BREAK! Another poor service game from Serena hands Kuznetsova another break point. And that is all she needs as a double fault from Serena re-establishes the double break for the Russian and allows her the chance to serve out this second set.

WILLIAMS 6-1 1-4 - BREAK! Serena gives herself a serious talking to after earning herself two break back points. Kuznetsova saves the first with a forehand winner down the line and then also the second with an angled forehand drop shot winner across court. Serena brings up a third with a backhand winner across court and this time she does get one of the breaks back with another cross court backhand winner.

WILLIAMS 6-1 0-4 - BREAK! The Kuznetsova forehand is really firing now as she breaks once again with a winner off that wing that Serena simply cannot get anywhere near. The Russian looked completely outplayed in the opening set but now a double break up in the second.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 0-3 - Kuznetsova hands Serena an immediate break back point with a forheand long. But she saves it with a forehand winner before going on to hold and consolidate this early break in the second set.

WILLIAMS 6-1 0-2 - BREAK! Kuznetsova knows she's got Serena on the ropes in a bid to set up a break point only to put her forehand volley into the net. But a forehand into the net from Serena does hand the Russian the break point. And this time she gets it when Serena sends a forheand long, before thinking about smashing her racquet on the ground in disgust.
-
WILLIAMS 6-1 0-1 - Kuznetsova holds for the opening game of the second set, the longest rally of the match so far (14 shots) ending in a forehand winner down the line from Kuznetsova.

Kuznetsova is currently taking an injury timeout although she has left the court so exactly what the issue is is hard to tell. It must be upper leg or lower back though to necessitate the treatment being taken off the court.
