Nadal collapses to the court in floods of tears after a warm embrace with Djokovic at the net and that's what it means to the Spaniard after missing last year's tournament with that career-threatening knee injury.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-6 - GAME, SET & MATCH! A huge first serve than Djokovic can only return into the net off the forehand wing and it's two match points to Nadal... He only needs the one though and RAFAEL NADAL IS THE US OPEN CHAMPION ONCE MORE after Djokovic nets a forehand down the line.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-5 - BREAK! A backhand approach shot wide from Djokovic, who is clearly running out of steam, hands Nadal another break point and a chance to serve for the title. One break point is all he needs as Djokovic pulls a cross court backhand passing shot wide into the tramlines. Rafael Nadal will serve for his second US Open title, and 13th Grand Slam title, next.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-4 - Brutal hitting from Nadal on the baseline and even Djokovic is left applauding when the Spaniard flicks a backhand passing shot across court for a winner to end a 25-shot rally. The world number two is closing in on his 10th title of the year as he holds once again, for the loss of just the one point, when Djokovic slaps another forehand long of the baseline.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-3 - Djokovic belatedly gets on the board in this third set as he posts a much better service hold to 15, a forehand winner bringing up game point before a big first serve seals it when Nadal cannot find the court with his backhand return.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 0-3 - Djokovic stumbles on the baseline, which doesn't help his cause, as Nadal holds to 15 to consolidate the break, the Spaniard sealing the game with a backhand winner down the line.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 0-2 - BREAK! Nadal senses the time is right to strike and quickly earns himself three break points with a trip into the net with a ferocious cross court forehand approach shot that Djokovic can only net in reply. The Serb saves the first with a trip into the net of his own and then the second with a spot of luck when he backhand catches the top of the net and dribbles over for the perfect drop shot winner. But Nadal does break with a sensational forehand winner down the line

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 0-1 - Djokovic flicks a cross court forehand winner off a Nadal drop shot after another 28-shot rally to bring up an early break point in this second set. He can't take advantage though, hitting wide with a forehand down the line. He also squanders a second with an inside-out forehand return wide across court and Nadal goes on to hold with a smash winner down the centre of the court.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-6 - SET! Yet another incredible rally from both players leaves the majority of the crowd on their feet as Nadal and Djokovic both cover every inch of the court before the Spaniard can eventually find a forehand volley winner into the open court. A blocked return from Nadal that Djokovic can only slap into the net and it's set point to the Spaniard. He only needs the one, Nadal sealing the set when Djokovic goes long with another forehand.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-5 - Nadal saves the third with a service winner down the centre of the court and although he can't quite take advantage of his first game point, does secure the hold at the second attempt with a smash winner. Djokovic will have to serve to stay in this third set after the change of ends.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-4 40-30 - Sensational from Djokovic again as he brings Nadal up to the baseline with a sliced drop shot before lobbing the Spaniard with a backhand volley lob. He also takes the second point of the game when Nadal slips on the baseline and then earns himself three break points as Nadal nets a forehand. Rafa saves the first with a big serve out wide and forehand winner down the line while Djokovic wastes the third with a netted forehand down the line.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 4-4 - Djokovic stops the run of game against him with a much better hold to 15 when Nadal's cross court forehand catches the top of the tape and just fails to go over the net..

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-4 - Djokovic's level has just dropped a little in the last couple of games and Nadal has fully taken advantage, battling back into the lead with a hold to 15 when a forehand goes long down the line from the Serb.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-3 - BREAK! Another blistering inside-out forehand winner from Djokovic, right into the corner, sees him level at 30-all after a spot of danger from Nadal. A mis-hit backhand from the Spaniard hands Djokovic a game point but a couple of huge forehands from Rafa earn him a break back point. And break back the Spaniard does when Djokovic sends a backhand sailing long of the baseline.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-2 - A service winner down the centre of the court from Nadal gets him out of a potential spot of bother after Djokovic takes the first point of the game once again. But the Spaniard recovers from there and holds to 15 with another cracking serve that Djokovic cannot retrun in play off the backhand wing.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 3-1 - Djokovic nets a forehand volley to drop the first point of the game before a sliced backhand drop shot is perfectly judged for a winner and going on to hold without the loss of another point, sealing the game with a service winner.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 2-1 - Djokovic lands a forehand return right on to the baseline to put Nadal on the backfoot and eventually draw the netted forehand from the Spaniard. Nadal levels up at 30-all with a forehand stop volley winner but a cross court forehand winner from Djokovic and a forehand return winner down the line bring up another break point for the Serb. He squanders it with a forehand long and Nadal goes on to hold with a sensational drop shot winner and another forehand long from Novak.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 2-0 - Djokovic nets a backhand from the baseline to squander a first game point before also putting a backhand volley into the net off a dipping forehand from Nadal. Deuce. But another breathtaking forehand from Djokovic, which Nadal can only put long, to end a 29-shot rally and the Serb has a third game point. And this time he does consolidate the early break. With an ace.

DJOKOVIC 2-6 6-3 1-0 - BREAK! Djokovic runs around the ball and fires a forehand winner down the line to take the lead against the Nadal serve before going on to break to love for the opening game of this third set when the Spaniard fails to find the court with a backhand.
