James Ward is one win away from reaching the US Open main draw after beating Frenchman Vincent Millot in straight sets in qualifying for the tournament at Flushing Meadows.
Britain's number two wrapped up a 6-4 6-4 victory in 74 minutes on court to set up a third and final round clash with Radu Albot from Moldova.
Ward, at a career-high world ranking of 131, is bidding to reach the US Open proper for the first time. He is the final Briton standing in the qualifying tournament after Daniel Evans, Daniel Cox and Daniel Smethurst all fell in the opening round.
Should Ward beat Albot, he will join Andy Murray as Britain's only representatives in the men's tournament proper.
