GAME, SET AND MATCH! - BERDYCH 2-6 4-6 (4)6-7 CILIC. Cilic secures a first ever appearance in the US Open semi finals with a superb straight sets defeat of the sixth seed in just two hours and 12 minutes. In the end he comes through the tie break in style after completely outclassing Berdych in the first two sets. The Czech rallied in the third after an insipid overall display, but there's no doubt the better player won on the day. In the decisive TB the pair exchanged mini breaks with some tight, unforced errors early on before Cilic grabbed the advantage and served down an ace to lead 4-2. A double fault then let Berdych off the hook and he blazed a sizzling winner into the corner to level. But a forehand error into the net offered Cilic another chance and he rocketed in an ace followed by a stunning winner down the right side of the court to seal a superb success. Cilic will now face Gael Monfils or Roger Federer in the last four.

BERDYCH 2-6 4-6 6-5 CILIC. The Czech seems to be using the anger over the double-bounce call to good effect and is finally playing the tennis we know he is capable of. A scorching forehand winner into the corner and a beast of a first serve do the major damage as he secures a love game to pile the pressure on Cilic once more. Can the Croatian force the tie break or will we see late drama with a set-winning break?
-
BERDYCH 2-6 4-6 5-5 CILIC. Aces 13, 14 and 15 do the bulk of the work for Cilic after he had dropped the opening point. A fourth big serve is then blocked into the net by Tomas and we're all square once again.
-
BERDYCH 2-6 4-6 5-4 CILIC. The Birdman takes an important game to 30 as Cilic fizzes a forehand just into the alley while trying to turn the screw. The sixth seed will aim to come out all guns blazing now to try and get the break that would clinch the set. It's easier said than done against a serve like Cilic's though!

BREAK! - BERDYCH 2-6 4-6 2-0 CILIC. An ace to kick off suggests it's business as usual for the 14th seed and he follows it up with a lovely pass to lead 30-0. However, a trio of woeful errors turn the game on its head and give Tomas a big opportunity. The Croatian forces deuce with a magnificent drop volley but then double faults to hand the Czech another opening. A huge first serve saves a second but when a third comes along Chila buckles and another DF hands Tomas the break he was praying for.

BERDYCH 2-6 3-4 CILIC. The sixth seed is forced to fight off another break point after looking in command at 30-0. A lovely low slice at 30-40 is too cunning for Cilic who fires long trying to dig it out and over the net. The Birdman finds refuge at deuce and then pulls off two big first serves out of the blue to stay in this, despite his obvious troubles.
-
BERDYCH 2-6 2-4 CILIC. That's too good. Once more there are some hefty serves from Cilic but there's also a touch of finesse in there.
