Marchenko 4-6 1-6 7-6 6-3 Wawrinka: Marchenko looks absolutely done for as Wawrinka finally wraps it up. He'll face Juan Martin del Potro in the quarter-finals after not a five set thriller, but certainly not a walk in the park.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 7-6 3-5 Wawrinka: Wawrinka is serving for the set and he wants this over with. He's whipping the crowd up into a frenzy and this is frantic. He's under a lot of pressure and has started giving away points left right and centre.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 7-6 2-5 Wawrinka: Wawrinka breaks Marchenko and holds to take control of the set. Marchenko is serving now and Wawrinka stacks it into the chairs by the umpire as he tries and fails to save the first point. It's all a little fraught now.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 7-6 2-3 Wawrinka: Marchenko is making Wawrinka work for this, to the extent perhaps I need to question my earlier statement - is this the fightback I said would never come?
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 7-6 Wawrinka: Marchenko has massively upped his game and wins the tie-break. Wawrinka looks almost as tired as his young pretender, but we've been here before with Wawrinka, and we have seen him drop sets at pivotal times in the past. My money would be on a brutal fourth set to seal his quarter-final place.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 6-6 Wawrinka: Over on Louis Armstrong Court we have got a tie-break situation as Marchenko holds firm.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 5-5 Wawrinka: Unbelievably, Marchenko has just broken Wawrinka in the 11th hour as he again attempts to wrap up the third set. Is Wawrinka tiring? We're seeing some sloppy errors now.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 4-5 Wawrinka: Marchenko may only be playing for pride now (in my humble opinion, but let's face it my opinon has been wrong before) but he's seeing it out. Wawrinka hits the net to hand the game to the Ukranian and he'll have to serve it out.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 3-4 Wawrinka: That was a nifty move by Marchenko who smashes a forehand into the right service area out wide of Wawrinka. He will not give up without a fight, but he will probably be beaten.
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 2-2 Wawrinka: In case you were wondering, Marchenko has the faster avergae service speed in this match at 106 mph to Wawrinka's 99. Losing he may be, but Marchenko is at least holding his own in the third set.
In scenes that will look all too familiar to anyone who watched the Thiem v del Potro match earlier, Marchenko is looking to be in deep discomfort as a member of his team rubs down his right knee. There's some strapping on it, but he's back on the court.
In case you were wondering what Marchenko's wearing while he loses...
Marchenko 4-6 1-6 Wawrinka: Easy peasey for Stan the Man who walks the second set. Marchenko is out of his depth here and I can't see a fightback being staged any time soon.
Marchenko 4-6 1-5 Wawrinka: Marchenko looks knackered now and his game is riddled with inconsistencies. He's handing victory to the Swiss with careless errors, and Warinka will now serve for the second set.
Marchenko 4-6 0-3 Wawrinka: Marchenko looks frustrated by now as Wawrinka starts to hit his stride. So far this set, a whitewash by the Swiss. But this is Marchenko's best performance ever in a grand slam having only ever made it as far as the second round, previously.
Marchenko 4-6 Wawrinka: Marchenko challenges the last ball there but Hawkeye says no. Wawrinka will take the first set, and just a little frustrated throw of the racquet against the chair by the Ukranian as he takes his time out.
Marchenko 4-4 Wawrinka: Five set thriller, anyone?
Marchenko 3-4 Wawrinka: The Ukrainian finally breaks and consolidates on that, but Wawrinka does not want to see it and holds his serve easily, with the massive hits he is famed for.
