Good evening (morning?) and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE coverage of the US Open semi final between Matteo Berrettini and Rafael Nadal. We'll bring you all the action as it happens at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The two players will be on court shortly.

The match was effectively decided in that first set tie break when Berrettini had two set points, but failed to take them. The Italian made a big breakthrough over the past two weeks, he went toe-to-toe with Nadal for much of the match, but this was one step too far.

GAME, SET, MATCH... NADAL! 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-1! Berrettini can reflect on an astonishing run at the US Open, but in the end he didn't have enough to topple Nadal, who will take on Medvedev in Sunday's final at Flushing Meadows!

Berrettini 1-5 *Nadal (6-7, 4-6): The Spaniard is just one game away from the US Open final. Is there any fight left in Berrettini? It's a long, long way back from here. Surely it's only a matter of time.

*Berrettini 1-4 Nadal (6-7, 4-6): It's surely now as good as over for Berrettini. Nadal grabs the double break in this second set, claiming his fourth break point in the game, and he's just two away from the final.

Berrettini 1-3 *Nadal (6-7, 4-6): Ace, winner, ace, double fault, winner and Nadal keeps the scoreboard ticking over. It's difficult to envisage how the Italian can possibly turn this around.

*Berrettini 1-2 Nadal (6-7, 4-6): The Italian holds serve, although it felt a little bit like Nadal was conserving some energy in that game. Keep in mind that Berrettini has yet to bring up a break point on the Nadal serve.

Berrettini 0-2 *Nadal (6-7, 4-6): It certainly feels like Nadal has taken a firm grip of this game as he holds comfortably to consolidate the early break at the start of the third set.

Another break! *Berrettini 0-1 Nadal (6-7, 4-6): Is that the moment that the Italian's resistance is broken? It's an early break at the start of the third set and Nadal is in full control now.

While Berrettini has undeniably impressed in this semi final, he has yet to bring up a single break point in the whole match. Nadal hasn't played his best tennis yet he's two sets to the good.

SECOND SET, NADAL! 7-6 (6), 6-4! The world number two is just one set away from a place in the US Open final. Berrettini's fight has been admirable, but the difference between the two players is starting to show. It's a long way back for the Italian from here.

*Berrettini 4-5 Nadal (6-7): The Italian digs deep once again and holds serve to force Nadal to clinch one more game in this second set. Going 2-0 up would be huge for the Spaniard. Would that be match over?

Berretini 3-5 *Nadal (6-7): The Italian showed great fight to bring up deuce against the Nadal serve, but the world number two just had too much heat and grasped game point with an inside out cross-court winner.

Nadal breaks! Finally, the Spaniard edges ahead in this second set, 4-3. That has been coming in fairness. Nadal had brought up break points in two Berrettini service games and he finally breaks in the third. He took his 10th break point.

Berrettini 3-3 *Nadal (6-7): One wonders how much is left in the legs of Berrettini. The Italian had played five hours more than Nadal coming into this match. He doesn't look affected, it must be said. Just a consideration. Still on serve.
