GAME, SET AND MATCH! - EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 7-6(1) POPYRIN. That is magnificent. Evo makes the last 16 at the US Open for the first time as he hits back from two sets down to prevail 7-1 in the fifth-set tie break. It was a real battle lasting four hours and two minutes but the Brit shoed real grit and determination to come through. He will meet No.2 seed Daniil Medvedev next.

TB LATEST. Evans cranks it up a gear. Its all about fast hands. He reaches into the sky and somehow conjures up a crosscourt backhand volley before picking up a tough low ball at the net and teasing it over for another incredible winner. A poor error from the Aussie puts the No.24 seed firmly in control and a lob long sees Evo lead 5-1 at the change of ends.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 6-6 POPYRIN. This match will be decided by a tie break! Evo shrugs off a marvellous pick-up, crosscourt pass from the Aussie for 15-15 to stay focused and hold to 30.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 5-6 POPYRIN. Evans complains to the chair umpire mid-game as he felt he heard the bleep of the net cord on a Popyrin serve. It comes at 15-0 and the Aussie rifles a forehand winner anyhow. The Brit looks to make a late move but can’t get his teeth into his return game and Alexei holds to 30. Dan must hold now to force a TB.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 5-5 POPYRIN. A smart serve and volley concludes another love hold for Evo. He’s served well in this decider. Can he find his return game now and make one last push to get it done before the breaker?

EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 4-5 POPYRIN. More animated fist-pumping from the Aussie as he closes out a hold to 15. He’s eye-balling his team in the corner, looking to draw energy from their shouts of approval.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 4-4 POPYRIN. Neither player willing to blink. Evans ties it up once more. Will we have one last moment of drama or will this be decided by a tie break?
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 3-4 POPYRIN. Evans produces a moment of sheer magic with a sublime lob that has him grinning from ear to ear. Popyrin hits back from 15-30 and shows wonderful hands around the net to claim a plucky hold from deuce. Cue another rush of emotion from the Aussie.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 3-3 POPYRIN. Well that was quick! No danger for Dan the Man as he blitzes his way to a love hold.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 2-3 POPYRIN. A 17th ace of the contest eases the world No.73 to a hold to 15 despite one corking return from the British No.1.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 2-2 POPYRIN. More Evo fist pumping = good news for GB fans. The Brummie shows more great resolve to eek out the hold from deuce. Both players want this win badly. It’ll be a tough one for the loser to take given that they’ve put everything into this.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 1-2 POPYRIN. Evans turns the screw at 0-30 but the Aussie comes flying back, producing a sensational backhand pass on the scamper to make 30-30. He screams and shakes with joy and really engages the crowd. He uses the rush of adrenalin to batter through the next two points and nudge the board in his favour.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 1-1 POPYRIN. Evans has to put in the hard yards with the court coverage but still comes away with a very tidy love hold of his own.
EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4 0-1 POPYRIN. Statement made. Popyrin comes out and saunters through a rampant love hold. That’s how you start a deciding set.

BREAK! - EVANS 4-6 3-6 6-3 4-4 POPYRIN. It’s a break-fest! Popyrin steps up a gear and clocks up two break points when his fizzing crosscourt attempt is volleyed long by Evo on the stretch. The Aussie’s power was a key factor in the first two sets and it does the job here as Evans can only slice a defensive backhand into the net.
