KEYS 4-6 7-6 6-2 RISKE: GAME, SET, MATCH! An ace is the ideal way to start any game but then that old friend the unforced error creeps in. A clean backhand winner into the corner precedes an unreturnable serve out wide for two match points and Keys gets the job done just before the clock ticks to 2am local time with a forehand winner into the corner.

KEYS 4-6 7-6 5-2 RISKE: Riske isn’t done yet. Some nice groundies into either corner help her to 40-15 before Keys nets. The higher ranked American will serve for a place in the second round, though.

KEYS 4-6 7-6 5-1 RISKE: Keys now in a hurry to get the job done and get to bed! A 12 ace edges her ahead in the game and successive forehand winners move her to within a game of the match.

KEYS 4-6 7-6 4-1 RISKE: BREAK! Riske beginning to miss for almost the first time in the match. Getting tired perhaps? Keys swats away a volley to break to 15 and surely that is the crucial double break.
-
KEYS 4-6 7-6 3-1 RISKE: Keys continues to follow winners with unforced errors but ace number 11 helps her to 40-15. Riske hits a delightful half volley winner but then nets as Keys consolidates the break.

KEYS 4-6 7-6 2-1 RISKE: BREAK! Riske races to 40-0 as more unforced errors flow from the Keys racket. The lower ranked American then throws in a double fault and twice hits long as the trend of long games in this long match continues. A backhand winner brings break point and a double fault gives Keys what could be a decisive break. If she cuts out the unforced errors!

KEYS 4-6 7-6 1-1 RISKE: Still Keys persists with her winner or bust tactic and chucks in a couple more unforced errors at the start of her service game. Riske forces two break points but then tightens up herself as Keys digs deep for a big hold.
-
KEYS 4-6 7-6 0-1 RISKE: The disappointment of losing that second set hasn’t affected Riske who holds to 15, thanks to a couple more unforced errors from Keys.

KEYS 4-6 7-6 RISKE: SET! A glaring overhead volley miss from Keys does not prove costly as she gets the mini break at 4-2 on the changeover. But she then throws it away again with a backhand that goes wide as Riske levels at 4-4 before Keys dumps a forehand into the net. Riske has two serves for a place in the second round but fearless hitting from Keys gets her level before Riske hits an easy volley long. Keys blazes a winner and from nowhere she pinches the set!

-
KEYS 4-6 6-5 RISKE: Keys races to 40-0 before Riske pegs her back with some heavy hitting of her own. Keys finds an excellent backhand winner from almost a kneeling position on the baseline and it’s a shot that earns her a tie break at the very least.
-
KEYS 4-6 5-5 RISKE: Nerveless tennis from Riske who holds to love and puts the pressure back on Keys.
