Coco Vandeweghe was born in New York City, so the US Open is truly the 25-year-old's home Slam. Today she is aiming to reach the semi-final for the first time. Standing in her way? PLISKOVA 6-7 4-6 VANDEWEGHE. Coco Vandeweghe has taken out Karolina Pliskova to become the third American woman in the US Open semi-final.

The 25-year-old drops to her knees, head-in-hands, as Pliskova nets at the death. The final game summed up why Pliskova deserves that victory. Her hammer forehand was just too much for the Czech, who loses her World No.1 to Garbine Muguruza.

PLISKOVA 6-7 3-5 VANDEWEGHE. Pliskova sends a strong message with a love hold. She is still fighting but Coco is serving for the match.

PLISKOVA 6-7 2-5 VANDEWEGHE. Coco closing in! Pliskova's muddled state of mind is evident on the opening point as she stops mid-rally to challenge after an in-call. It is in, fracticonally, but it was not a risk the Czech had to take. The dream of four American women in the US Open semi-final is very much on. Pliskova, who will lose her World No.1 ranking unless she reaches the final, is serving to stay in the tournament.

PLISKOVA 6-7 2-4 VANDEWEGHE. Terrific game for Coco, who restores her lead by a break. She makes it look easy on break point, anticipating and dispatching a Pliskova approach shot with a trademark ferocious forehand.

PLISKOVA 6-7 2-3 VANDEWEGHE. Pliskova breaks straight back in a game where Coco looked tight for the first time. And the American appeared to be lose focus after a call from the chair umpire left her with a second serve, when she had thought she would be back on the first.

PLISKOVA 6-7 1-3 VANDEWEGHE. There's the second-set breakthrough! With two break points, Coco hammers the perfect return into the corner and Pliskova is powerless to make the shot. The Czech, who double faulted in that game, is in real trouble here. Coco leads by a set and a break.

PLISKOVA 6-7 1-2 VANDEWEGHE. Still just two breaks in the match, as Coco keeps the pressure on with another hold. There was the first hint of serve-and-volley for the American in that game but she netted on the second serve for a double-fault. Many predicted net-play would be the key to victory for Coco but she has matched Pliskova from the baseline so far.

PLISKOVA 6-7 1-1 VANDEWEGHE. A hold apiece at the start of this second set.

PLISKOVA 6-7(4) VANDEWEGHE. Pliskova rarely shows any emotion at all but she slams her racquet onto the court as Coco clinches the first set, winning the tiebreak after a magnificent show of control and poise. Ashe raises the roof in support of the local girl.

TIE-BREAK - PLISKOVA 0-3 VANDEWEGHE. What a start. Pliskova's first serve is met by a lethal Coco winner, and she serves with controlled aggression to race into an early lead in the TB.

PLISKOVA 6-6 VANDEWEGHE. That's how to do it. Sealed with an ace, Coco holds comfortably to set-up a first-set breaker. They've played three previous TBs, with the American winning two of them...

PLISKOVA 6-5 VANDEWEGHE. Coco will have to serve to stay in the set again after more ferocious groundstrokes from Pliskova.

PLISKOVA 5-5 VANDEWEGHE. A first set point for Pliskova, helped by another double fault and an error from Coco, is saved brilliantly by the American, and she clinches a tense game with a terrific backhand winner. That was an impressive show of mental strength from the home favourite.

PLISKOVA 5-4 VANDEWEGHE. At 0-30, there's a chance to Coco to hit straight back. But she chooses to slog out the rest of the game from the baseline, with Pliskova again venturing to the net, and the Czech rallies to hold. She is starting to win the mini-battles and Coco is looking frustrated already. Pliskova a game away from the opening set.
