Evening all, and welcome to what should be an excellent match. Kvitova is back to somewhere near her best - she had to be to see off Muguruza in the last round - while Venus is Venus. Of course, it's possible that Kvitova isn't yet ready to deliver on the reg, but if she is, she'll have too much for the old mistress.

Williams 1-0 Kvitova
At 15-0 Williams sends Kvitova scurrying off on the backhand side, then smites a forehand into the vacated space before sending down an ace. 40-0, but Kvitova times a lovely forehand to get into the match. It's her only point of the game.

Venus will serve.
00:18
I wonder if Kvitova's swinging left handedness will be tricky for Venus at this point in her career. I think that it might be.
00:16
Bartoli is picking Venus, because she's at home.
00:16
Marion Bartoli reckons the serve will decide this; or rather, whoever has to hit fewer second serves will win.
00:14
People keep going on about how old Venus is. She's younger than me. Ah.

Already through to the semyes is Sloane Stephens, whose improvement continues. She beat Anastasija Sevastova in a third set tiebreaker and awaits the winner of tonight's match. I've absolutely no idea who's going to win this competition, because no one would have predicted the last four on the other side of the draw either, but again, if Kvitova is at it, she's the one to beat.

I like that Venus' Twitter handle is @venuseswilliams. Imagine!
