Not much of a match, that, but in a way that tells us how far Keys has come; she was solid, professional and inspired when she needed to be. And her match with Osaka tomorrow night should be a jazzer, two huge hitters with plenty of wit as well. Don't miss that, but before then, join me for Djokovic-Millman which is coming right up.

A belter of a forehand apiece takes us to 15-all and then a chink for Suarez Navarro at 15-30, only for Keys to resolve matters with a service winner and an ace, both out wide. AND THEN KEYS DOUBLE-FAULTS ON MATCH POINT! The second of these is really a dribble and suddenly Suarez Navarro is dictating, earning advantage! Keys composes, serves, and sets up a forehand winner, beautifully crafting the opening before executing with extreme prejudice. And again, and huge backhand raising match-point number two ... and that's all she needs! Madison Keys is into the semeis again, and will meet Naomi Osaka!

Keys 6-4 5-3 Suarez Navarro -
Suarez Navarro is going to regret this in the morning; she's barely landed a punch on Keys, who is perhaps too good, but who hasn't been put in any uncomfortable situations either. She hasn't played as though her life rests on it, and as such, is simply succumbing to a superior talent. She makes Keyes serve for it, though.

Keys 6-4 5-2 Suarez Navarro -
Keys consolidates to 15 and looks unfeasibly unlikely to be broken. She's one away.

Keys 6-4 4-2 Suarez Navarro -
The hum is now being compared to torrential rain hitting the roof, as Keys walks into a backhand return that gets her 15-30. She then cracks another return and pick-up which is too much for Suarez Navarro and suddenly we might just be watching the end; but what a backhand flick of the wrists saves the first break-point a winner sent at improbably acute angle ... only for Keys to power through the next point, hitting where Suarez Navarro is most uncomfortable. Keys is buzzing now, and this is nearly over.

Keys 6-4 3-2 Suarez Navarro -
In commentary, they're still complaining about the hum, which tells you how annoying it must be, and how whelming the tennis is. Suarez Navarro gets 15-30, but can do nothing about a kick serve or one out wide, and a one-two punch follows.

Keys 6-4 2-2 Suarez Navarro -
Keys misses a couple of opportunities in this game, much to her consternation, and Suarez Navarro holds to 15. But can she come up with, or execute a plan to break?
01:15
Keys 6-4 2-1 Suarez Navarro -
I wish there was more to report but there isn't. Keys holds to 15 after challenging a call on a ball that dropped long but was called in. My guess is that Keys will break at some point and the match will be finished within 20 minutes.

Keys 6-4 1-1 Suarez Navarro -
This is very diluted, players reflecting crowd and vice- versa. Suarez Navarro holds to 15.
01:06
Keys 6-4 1-0 Suarez Navarro -
Suarez Navarro isn't good enough at what she does to combat what Keys; currently, at least, power and skill are beating spin and skill. She does get to deuce on this latest receipt, if such a term exists which it does not, but from there Keys clears up easily enough with nails serving.

Keys 6-4 Suarez Navarro -
The crowd is growing, but with people more interested in the majesty of their own conversation than in watching the tennis. On court, Keys gets 30-all from 30-0, Suarez Navaroo nets a backhand, and that's set point! So Keys attacks but comes in when things were going well from the back and winds up losing out at the net; no matter, because a fast, flat return then a monstrous forehand down the line seal the set!

Keys 5-4 Suarez Navarro -
Keys holds to 30 once more, and Suarez Navarro is now under a spot of pressure.
00:53
Keys 4-4 Suarez Navarro -
The clash of styles should be making for a really intriguing and fun match, except it isn't. We're not getting much in the way of rallies nor much in the way of winners, but Keys finds a big one for 30-all for all the good it does her; Suarez Navarro gets 40-30 then wears a couple of big forehands to flip one of her own cross-court for a beautiful winner.
00:48
Keys 4-3 Suarez Navarro -
Keys races to 40-0, then cedes two liveners before a big serve does the trick. The muted atmosphere is affecting the players, reckons Annabel Croft, and that they're just going through the motions. There's certainly no sense of occasion, and the tennis is to match.
00:42
Keys 3-3 Suarez Navarro -
The US open reckon USOpen is one word; alright then lads. Anyway, Suarez Navarro misses a lob that means 30-all and then a swiped backhand that leaves her facing break point ... Keys attacks her second serve, but a nails forehand gets the job done and very soon afterwards it's 3-3. The atmosphere on Ashe is odd, apparently - it's nowhere near full and people are minding their own business rather than focusing on yon tennis.
00:36
Keys 3-2 Suarez Navarro -
Keys still doesn't quite know when to keep it going and when to open her shoulders and finds herself break-point down at advantage after a sloppy game. She saves it, after which Suarez Navarro complains to he umpire about crowd chatter and loses a fine rally into which both players incorporate power and touch, before Keys closes out.
00:30
Keys 2-2 Suarez Navarro -
Suarez Navarro has the world's highest-ranked one-handed backhand, and very nice it is too, but it's Keys with one down the line that just misses. That was a chance to get stuck into the game, which the Spaniard takes for the loss of just one point.
00:29
Keys 2-1 Suarez Navarro
Better from Suarez Navarro, who loses the game to 30 but looks closer to finding the measure of Keys' power.
00:22
Keys 1-1 Suarez Navarro -
Keys is seeing it nicely, two winners getting her to 30-all before a low return fizzes onto the line and Suarez Navarro can only net; break point. And Keys' forehand dominates the next rally ... only for her to net a backhand drop. Two more errors later and the set is level, and Keys will, on the one hand, be ruing a missed opportunity but on the other feeling that she more than has the measure of her opponent.
00:19
Keys 1-0 Suarez Navarro -
Keys eases herself into things, serving out to 30. Suarez Navarro hasn't got going yet, and my guess is that Keys senses a breaking opportunity coming up.
