GAME, SET AND MATCH! - KONTA 4-6 4-6 SVITOLINA. Konta's American dream is over. It's Elina Svitolina who holds her nerve to serve it out and take the contest on her third match point after one hour and 39 minutes. Konta leaked too many errors as she grew frustrated trying to breach the Ukrainian's superb rearguard action from the baseline. Svitolina will now meet Serena Williams or Chinese 18th seed Wang Qiang in the semi finals.
KONTA 4-6 4-5 SVITOLINA. Konta refuses to go away just yet. She digs her way out of trouble at 0-30 and then swats away two match points to pose the serve-out question.
KONTA 4-6 3-5 SVITOLINA. The No.5 seed backs up her break to 30 and is one game away from the last four. Konta is in deep trouble.
BREAK! - KONTA 4-6 3-4 SVITOLINA. That's a disaster for Konta. Svitolina comes flying back as Konta leaks some avoidable errors at the worst possible time.
BREAK! - KONTA 4-6 3-3 SVITOLINA. Elina will wish she had that one back. She fails to put Konta away with a very make-able backhand and pays the price. JoKo unloads a stunning backhand to earn break back point and makes it a reality with a quite sublime drop shot.
BREAK! - KONTA 4-6 2-3 SVITOLINA. Wayward. Konta thrashes an awkward forehand way off court and coughs up the break. Svitolina had seen her first opportunity go begging, but kept up the heat with more stubborn defence to make the breakthrough in Set 2 at the second time of asking.
KONTA 4-6 2-2 SVITOLINA. Konta produces a rather memorable backhand winner down the line, but it isn't enough to crank up the heat. She shows a bit of frustration with a wild attempt to make deuce that misses the baseline by a fair way. All square once again.
KONTA 4-6 2-1 SVITOLINA. Konta's been here plenty of times before this year and dropping that first set hasn't really fazed her. She marauds to another hold to 15 to keep the scoreboard advantage ticking over.
KONTA 4-6 1-1 SVITOLINA. Konta continues to try and dictate but is finding it hard to breach Svitolina's defences without leaking errors. The Ukrainian eases to a game to 15 to get on the board.
KONTA 4-6 1-0 SVITOLINA. Konta needed a strong start to Set 2 - and she gets it with a quick-fire love hold.
SET! - KONTA 4-6 SVITOLINA. The No.5 seed takes the opener in 49 minutes. She does it on her second set point from deuce after Konta had produced a stunning, angled volley on the stretch to fend off the first. The Brit has been a master at winning three-set matches this year, and she's going to have to do that again if she's to make the last four from here.
KONTA 4-5 SVITOLINA. Jo poses the serve-out question with a strong hold to 15 that includes her first ace of the match.
KONTA 3-5 SVITOLINA. That's some hold for Elina and puts her on command of this first set. The Ukrainian No.5 seed sees a 30-0 lead turn sour but corks down a third ace of the contest to reach deuce. Konta has her chance in the rally of the match, but can't find the crosscourt winner as Svitolina angles a backhand on the jump while facing the wrong way back into court. Super tennis that provides her with the platform to consolidate.
BREAK! - KONTA 3-4 SVITOLINA. The run of breaks continues! Svitolina takes advantage of some poor decision-making from the Brit to twist the initiative back her way. The Ukrainian conjures up a lovely crosscourt pass on double break point to leave Konta looking forlorn at the net.
BREAK! - KONTA 3-3 SVITOLINA. That's a super response. JoKo mixes up her return game with some nice variety. Svitolina hits back from 0-30 to lead, but is put under pressure when a big forehand helps the Brit get to deuce. A disguised short return earns Konta a break back point and Elina buckles with a tame slice into the net.
BREAK! - KONTA 2-3 SVITOLINA. First real sign of danger for Konta - and she can't wriggle free! The Brit remains aggressive but is frustrated by some dogged defence from her opponent, who snares the first break point of the match. JoKo makes deuce but can't see the game out. Svitolina keeps getting the ball back and then comes up with a smart return to make the breakthrough.
KONTA 2-2 SVITOLINA. The No.5 seed thunders down some impressive deliveries to claim a simple and highly efficient hold.
