NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 KLIZAN. MATCH! Klizan hopelessly bricks a smash well wide among other errors, but his titanic, last stand hitting sends him up to a final break point. Nadal sweeps to the baseline and bats away the danger with a pair of big serves. A typically overzealous backhand from across the net flies wide and gives Nadal his first victory at Wimbledon.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 5-3 KLIZAN. BREAK! It doesn’t take too long for Nadal to restore the break with some blinding forehands. Klizan helps along with a few tired errors of his own, and soon the Spaniard is a game away from victory.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 4-3 KLIZAN. BREAK! Things appear to be going to plan for Nadal until a delicate dropshot winner slips from Klizan’s strings and, at 30-30, the Spaniard shanks a forehand into the crowd. Out of nowhere, Klizan comes alive again, burying a forehand return crosscourt for a clean winner and screaming an endless “c’mon” as he brings things back on serve.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 4-2 KLIZAN. A love service game for Klizan follows as he too fires down a series of big first serves. The showmanship and theatricality has long since gone, however.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 4-1 KLIZAN. It takes Nadal little time at all to consolidate with a series of first serve against an opponent who looks visibly defeated. A few big serves is all it takes for Nadal to distance himself even more from the Slovak.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 3-1 KLIZAN. BREAK! After 5,687 more falls from Klizan, Nadal falls for a second time and wins his second point after a fall, this time launching a sweet lob over the head of Klizan. This new humiliation appears to crush Klizan for good as he drops a crucial service game
17:03
NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 2-1 KLIZAN. A third consecutive easy hold graces the first set as another service winner-dominated game ends with Nadal marching to his seat, nose slightly in the lead again.
16:59
NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 1-1 KLIZAN. The Spaniard drags the game to 30-30 after some limp misses from a despondent Klizan, but the Slovak does just enough to hold on, calling on his swinging lefty serve to save him once more.
16:55
NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 1-0 KLIZAN. Nadal begins the set with a love game, closing things out with a sliding unreturned serve after a series of big first serves with similar results. He’s bouncing and strutting more than ever, and evidently senses the chance to slip the knife in.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 6-3 KLIZAN.SET! Once again, a sublime point from Nadal appears to floor his opponent as a series of unforced errors stream from his racket. Another groundstrokes flies long and, before long, Nadal is sitting down two a 2-1 lead in sets
16:46
NADAL 4-6 6-3 5-3 KLIZAN. After the listless monotony of the last few games, a brilliant point as the pair trade before Nadal sweeps into the net. A fantastic lob flies over Nadal’s head, which Klizan pairs with a deft dropshot, hopping as creeps over the net. He perhaps should have been moving forward, however, as Nadal drops a reply dropshot short and then volleys the response over the net. A big first serve later, Nadal is a game from the set.
16:42
NADAL 4-6 6-3 4-3 KLIZAN. A sliced Klizan first serve veers off the grass and forces an error from Nadal, who shakes his head as he struts to his chair. Another easy, swift service hold for the Slovak as he chases the break.
16:39
NADAL 4-6 6-3 4-2 KLIZAN. This time, a slightly easier hold for the Spaniard comes as he slams down a series of big first serves. Klizan huffs and puffs but he can’t touch Nadal this time, and the Spaniard ascends through and bunts the ball over with another game in his pocket.
16:36
NADAL 4-6 6-3 3-2 KLIZAN. The door creeks open a little and, after a nervous forehand to start the game, Klizan continues to brandish his forehands left, right and centre. He snatches a solid hold to at least put a touch of pressure on the Spaniard.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 3-1 KLIZAN. BREAK! Well, that was unexpected. Nadal hits one forehand wide, another forehand wide and a backhand into the middle of the net to limply hand over one of his breaks back to his ailing opponent.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 3-0 KLIZAN. BREAK! It’s incredible how one point can define an entire match. Since Nadal’s miraculous rise from the turf, the points and games have rolled his way. Already, Klizan looks spent as a festival of errors offer the world number one his second break of the set.
16:22
NADAL 4-6 6-3 2-0 KLIZAN. Klizan’s frustration at dropping his serve carried on into the next game as, against a series of strong deliveries from the Spaniard, the Slovak merely slapped a load of forehands and long, allowing the second seed a swift consolidation.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 1-0 KLIZAN. BREAK! What a point! After approximately 59 thousand slips from the Slovakian, Nadal slips for the first time and…gets up, runs from corner to corner about 6 times and then pulls off a screaming angled backhand crosscourt winner. This came at deuce right after Klizan had thrown away two break points, and his spirit was understandably shattered as the next point was limply lost, and along with it his serve.

NADAL 4-6 6-3 KLIZAN. SET! Uh oh! A short and easy forehand flies wide and a barrage of Slovakian forehands send Nadal two matches down as the medics around the court gather in anticipation of performing the Heimlich manoeuvre on a choking Nadal. However, a serve, a forehand and some raging fistpumps from the Spaniard eradicate the break and eventually hand him the set.

NADAL 4-6 5-3 KLIZAN. It appears for a moment that Nadal is going to steal the set right there and then, but Klizan comes flying back with more crushing serves and forehands. An uncontested run of serves and he digs out a hold and forced Nadal to serve for it.
