Welcome one and all, it's the final match of the day on Centre Court on the opening day of Wimbledon 2016. Next up we have Roger Federer against Guido Pella of Argentina.

Right, that's me done for the day, I'm off to watch England go out of the Euros on penalties.

Federer 7-5 7-5 6-3 Pella: And he's won! Can't help but feel bad for Pella, he'd have fought his way through a lesser draw, more than likely. But King Fed reigns supreme on Centre Court.

Federer 7-5 7-5 6-3 Pella: I spoke too soon - Federer has broken - this is not a drill - Federer has broken.

Federer 7-5 7-5 4-3 Pella: It's unbearably close with almost every game ending in a deuce. Neither opponent has broken yet - and we're well in to the third set.

Federer 7-5 7-5 1-1 Pella: Federer's current mood: "let's wrap this up, I know you guys have got a football match to watch." Not quite working out that way, however. The big guns seem to be coming out, but misfiring. Repeatedly.

Federer 7-5 7-5 Pella: "Fedastic" says the crowd, seemingly unaware they're missing a "T", no matter Roger Federer wins the tie-break to take the second set. Can't help but feel a bit bad for Pella.

And we've gone to another tie-break....

John McEnroe makes a bold claim in his commentary "these guys have to train a lot." I had no idea...

Federer 7-5 4-5 Pella: Again, Federer has a healthy lead, again he gives it away making errors and over-hitting.

Federer 7-5 4-4 Pella: Federer is starting to look like he means business, unleashing two consecutive aces on Pella. He holds his serve, as is very much in keeping with the theme of this match.

Federer 7-5 3-3 Pella: Well that was silly. Federer gets a bit cocky and goes to very casually drop the shot over the net. He's a bit too casual though, and it hits the net. Still, he comes back to win hold his serve. And still we wait for the break.

Federer 7-5 2-2 Pella: It's a tense game with Pella looking a good match for the Swiss star, but Federer is keeping his cool under pressure. We're on our second deuce of the fifth game and could be here a while.

Federer 7-5 0-1 Pella: Just when you think Federer is going to do the right thing and break, he gives away his substantial lead by making unforced errors.

Federer 7-5 Pella: Someone in the crowd looked delighted to catch Federer's misfired ball, he looks less impressed as he starts losing his cool a little. Nonetheless, he wins the tie-break to take the first set. Edge of your seat stuff...

Federer 6-6 Pella: And it looks like they're going to make us wait over on Centre Court with a tie-break to play, as neither opponent manages to break

Federer 4-4 Pella: A blistering passing shot by Fed looked like it might see the turning point of this match as he seems to be moving towards the break that has thus far eluded both. It's not to be.

Federer 3-3 Pella: That said, it is several years since Federer won a grand slam - the last being here on Centre Court in 2012 and would not be the tournament favourite by any stretch of the imagination. We're still waiting for the break, this evening.

Federer 2-1 Pella: Some really fast and furious rallies going on between these two and it's a packed Centre Court watching world No.3 Federer in his natural environment.
