GAME, SET AND MATCH! – FEDERER 7-6 6-1 6-4 GASQUET. Federer serves out the match with an ace to take the game to 15 and complete a solid straight sets victory over an old foe in Gasquet in one hour and 51 minutes. The Swiss made an out-of-sorts start but really found rhythm from the tie break onwards. He will now meet GB’s Cam Norrie in round three.

FEDERER 7-6 6-1 5-4 GASQUET. Gasquet almost implodes from 30-0 up but Federer can’t take advantage on a first match point. The Frenchman lives to fight at least another couple of minutes as he survives from deuce to pose the serve-out question.

BREAK! – FEDERER 7-6 6-1 4-3 GASQUET. That’s a giveaway and it could well spell the end for Gasquet now. First he hooks a wild forehand wide at 30-30 to cough up break point and then dumps a horrible dropshot into the net. You sensed that was coming too.
FEDERER 7-6 6-1 3-3 GASQUET. No such drama for Federer. He lashes an ace down the middle T to conclude a simple and effective hold to 15. He’s served so well since the tie break.
FEDERER 7-6 6-1 2-3 GASQUET. That’s a fine recovery. Gasquet spins a drop shot just into the tramlines at 30-15 and it almost unravels from there. He fends off break point to make deuce and then produces a brave serve and volley to take control and maintain that scoreboard advantage.
FEDERER 7-6 6-1 2-2 GASQUET. Federer barely breaks sweat as he dashes through another love hold. He’s certainly ironed out some of the early glitches he was enduring.

FEDERER 7-6 6-1 1-2 GASQUET. The Frenchman just about comes out on top in a couple of eye-catching rallies from the baseline. He nudges the board and is already more competitive than in the previous set.
FEDERER 7-6 6-1 1-1 GASQUET. You know Roger’s rocking when he ghosts into the net to follow up a serve with a delicate stun volley. Quite sublime and a very comfortable hold to 15.
FEDERER 7-6 6-1 0-1 GASQUET. Richard does a good job hitting the rest button. He kicks off Set 3 with a solid hold to 15. Hard to see a way back for him from here but he’ll want to make more of an impression than he did in that last set.

SET! – FEDERER 7-6 6-1 GASQUET. A couple of shanks off both flanks from Fed offer Gasquet a glimmer. The Frenchman can’t take the break as he arrows a backhand just long. Federer produces an audacious dropshot to earn set point and duly hammers down a big serve to take a 2-0 lead.
FEDERER 7-6 5-1 GASQUET. It’s the evening and far too late for a bagel. Gasquet avoids it with a hold to 30. Federer will now serve for a breadstick instead.
FEDERER 7-6 5-0 GASQUET. Love hold – tick. Double break backed up - tick. Two-set lead? Imminent.

BREAK! - FEDERER 7-6 4-0 GASQUET. This is a real purple patch! Gssquet shanks a backhand off court and coughs up another break point. He tries to kick a serve to the body but Federer reads it and guides a glorious return winner up the line for the double break.

BREAK! – FEDERER 7-6 2-0 GASQUET. Richard raises his hands in the air and drinks in the adulation of the crowd after corking a breathtaking backhand up the line from a defensive position to make 40-0. The momentum is with the Frenchman but Federer drags himself back into it with some sharp returning. The Swiss makes deuce and a dropshot error somehow sees him clock up break point. The pair exchange crosscourt backhands in the ensuing rally and it’s Gasquet who blinks first. How on earth did Federer win that game? Incredible.
FEDERER 7-6 1-0 GASQUET. An inside-out forehand with a devilishly short crosscourt angle claims a tricky hold for Federer as clutch serving gets him out of danger from break point down. More frustration for Gasquet who has now had a few openings on the FedEx serve.

SET! – FEDERER 7-6 GASQUET. That’s an emphatic tie break from Federer after he struggled to get out of second gear for much of the opening set. He takes it 7-1 and has the Centre Court on its feet in appreciation.
