Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova opens her 2021 campaign on Centre Court against former US Open winner Sloane Stephens. This should be an interesting one.

Stephens admits that she was prepared for a tough job today. She's pleased to be back in front of a crowd - and may play a compatriot in Kristie Ahn next...or Britain's Heather Watson.

STEPHENS 6-3, 6-4 KVITOVA: What an odd match. Sloane Stephens deserved the win and Petra Kvitova never really got going. It took an hour and 17 minutes to get it done.

STEPHENS 6-3, 5-4 KVITOVA: Well, the former SW19 champion has put it back on the American's racquet, at least.

STEPHENS 6-3, 5-3 KVITOVA: And a hold for Stephens means that she needs just one more game to finish this off. It's a match that has never quite caught light, which is a shame.

STEPHENS 6-3, 4-3 KVITOVA: That's the break! Stephens is businesslike and this is looking bad for Kvitova now.

STEPHENS 6-3, 3-3 KVITOVA: They're really battling this out, so evenly matched, these two Grand Slam champions.

STEPHENS 6-3, 2-3 KVITOVA: Who's going to blink first? This isn't the match I was quite expecting but it's quite fascinating.

STEPHENS 6-3, 2-2 KVITOVA: Another easy hold for Stephens, who's serving very well. Difficult to see where the chances are going to come for Kvitova there.

STEPHENS 6-3, 1-2 KVITOVA: The tenth seed keeps serve but Stephens is really piling the pressure on, pushing her to deuce.

STEPHENS 6-3, 1-1 KVITOVA: Stephens holds serve too. She needs to keep her focus here, getting past such a tricky opponent in straight sets would be an absolute gift.

STEPHENS 6-3, 0-1 KVITOVA: The Czech is first on the board in the second set. Is she hoping for a boost from the crowd? They're a little subdued after that first match between Draper and Djokovic so she might have to sort this out herself.

STEPHENS 6-3 KVITOVA: A gentle fistpump from Sloane Stephens as she serves out to 15 to take the opening set without having to work too hard for it.

STEPHENS 5-3 KVITOVA: The Czech is just about staying in touch but the first set is now on Sloane Stephens' racquet.

STEPHENS 5-2 KVITOVA: This is solid hitting from Stephens and Kvitova doesn't really look at the races at the moment. Still, she's not known as P3tra on the internet for nothing.

STEPHENS 4-2 KVITOVA: There's the break. Sloane Stephens is looking very calm at the moment as she makes inroads into the Kvitova serve.e

STEPHENS 3-2 KVITOVA: Stephens moves ahead with a good hold, and takes to her seat to start working her way through a very tempting-looking bottle of icy water on this humid, close day.

STEPHENS 2-2 KVITOVA: And a hold for Kvitova with that dangerous lefty slice serve.

STEPHENS 2-1 KVITOVA: What an ace for Stephens to confirm the first hold of the match.

STEPHENS 1-1 KVITOVA: And Sloane Stephens breaks right back. These two are testing each other out with narrowed eyes, circling around each other.

STEPHENS 0-1 KVITOVA: Break in the opening game. Petra Kvitova has a bit of a reputation for forcing matches to go three sets, but in this tough opening encounter she'll certainly want to get things done as cleanly as possible.
