Good afternoon, my name is Reda Maher and I will be providing LIVE coverage of Roger Federer's opening match at the ATP World Tour Finals from the O2 Arena in London, a Group B encounter against Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia. It was scheduled to start at around 1.45pm UK time, but the preceding doubles clash has gone to a champions tie-break so expect it to start closer to 2.15.

Well the bookies had Djokovic and Murray as favourites for this tournament, but when there's a roof involved I can never look beyond Federer. FEDERER 6-3 6-1 - GAME SET AND MATCH FEDERER! Tipsy was on the brink of falling 14-40 but a brave rush to net delays the inevitable. He bosses the next point too but sends a backhand cross wide when it should have been a winner. Deuce. And now match-point Fed as an identical rally sees Tipsy flop an identical backhand cross wide! Federer takes it with a crisp pass into the right that a sliding Tipsy can only net. Easy win for Fed.

FEDERER 6-3 5-1 - Tipsy has not thrown in the towel though and scrambles a couple of points against Fed’s next service game, but the maestro holds as his next serve is backhanded weakly to net by the Serb. Tipsy serving to stay in the match.

FEDERER 6-3 4-1 - BREAK! Break point Fed after a magnificent rally, drop shots and impossible volleys from both men, a wonderful backhand volley across the net winning it! A second-serve ace saves it for Tipsy, but he then goes long and another break point… Saved by a monster serve that a slipping Fed returns long. But another break point as Fed disguises a curling forehand off the line. Beautiful. Fed takes it as he controls the next rally off his backhand before passing down the line. Wow.

FEDERER 6-3 3-1 - Tipsy struggling on his next service game but he levels to 30-30 when one of his rushes to net pays off, allowing him to pass Fed down the line. Next point Fed moves in to volley but underhits it thanks to deceptive spin by Tipsy, who holds as an ambitious forehand winner from Fed dips just the wrong side of the baseline – oh no it didn’t! A challenge, and HawkEye shows it touched the line. Deuce.

FEDERER 6-3 3-1 - How about that for a speedy hold - just a shade over a minute as Tipsy barely gets a touch of the ball.

FEDERER 6-3 2-1 - BREAK! A fine backhand winner down the line gives Fed another break point – saved as he nets a return. But an ill-advised rush sees Tipsy stranded as Fed passes him, third break point, taken by an error as Tipsy nets his follow-up.

FEDERER 6-3 1-1 - Federer just needs the one break per set when indoors, and he has a couple of points off Tipsy’s serve now. He dictates the next point using his forehand and when Tipsy underhits a baseline cross to net, it’s break point. Second serve and Tipsy is able to rush to net and volley away. Saved, deuce. Now Federer goes long from the baseline, but Tipsy overhits a wild forehand, back to deuce.

FEDERER 6-3 1-1 - Tipsarevic is playing well enough but Federer’s pinpoint deliveries and unerring backhand are leaving him with little chance. Another straightforward hold for the Swiss.

FEDERER 6-3 0-1 - Tipsarevic eyes the love hold but Federer somehow stays alive in the next rally before clipping a dropping volley just over the net - Tipsy meets it but strikes string. The Serb holds to 15 in the end as a rare spatial error from Fed sees him clip a dipping forehand wide.

Well that was a fairly comfortable set for Federer in the end, he never truly looked threatened and did not have to save any break points - closest Tipsy got was deuce. Can anyone topple Fed in his preferred climate? Let me know what you think on Twitter @Reda_Eurosport.

FEDERER 6-3 - SET! Tripe set point to Federer now as he blasts his way to a 40-0 lead… taken at the first time of asking, half an hour and Fed is halfway there.

FEDERER 5-3 - A relatively comfortable hold for Tipsarevic, but he is still trailing that early Fed break and aside from taking him to deuce in the last game has not looked to threatening on the Swiss’s serve.

FEDERER 5-2 - A sniff of trouble on the Fed serve as Tipsy claws a few points back, and he’s forced on to second serve via an unsuccessful challenge – before going long on the next point. Deuce. But Fed regains his focus and blasts Tipsy away to hold.

FEDERER 4-2 - Tipsy should hold to 15 but spins a winner wide and is forced to serve again. A confident hold though, he’s making his shots – one forehand winner down the line a particular joy.

FEDERER 4-1 - A wonderful point from both men results in a Fed smash at the net after some great hustling from Tipsy. 40-0, and Fed holds as Tipsy’s next return lands long.

FEDERER 3-1 - Tipsy gets his act together and races into a 40-0 lead as his powerful serves peg Roger back a bit. The Serb holds to love as a cool pass off the line is only spooned into the net by Fed.

FEDERER 3-0 - Federer eases 40-0 on his beautiful deliveries, which are helped by the totally still conditions at the O2. It’s also very warm in here, which suits the effortless style of Fed. But Tipsy pulls a couple of points back as the Swiss’s accuracy suddenly deserts him, although he holds to 30 off a supreme second serve. Nine minutes in and we’re potentially halfway through the opening set.

FEDERER 2-0 - BREAK! Federer breaks at the first attempt, taking the second of his break points in this game as Tipsy simply cannot handle his swooping backhands and, on one occasion, a lovely gliding volley at the net.

FEDERER 1-0 - This match gets underway, with Federer on serve. He’s been put as third favourite by the bookies, whose odds are no doubt affected by the rankings and fan betting patterns. He’s the one to beat though and, in my opinion, the best indoor player of all time. An easy hold to love for the Swiss as a bullet of an ace clips the line, Tipsy losing a challenge.
