Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the all-Spanish encounter at the ATP World Tour Finals as Rafa Nadal takes on David Ferrer.

Nadal is just one win away now from securing the year-ending world number one ranking while Ferrer still has a chance to reach the knock-out stages of this tournament depending on the rest of the results this week.

NADAL 6-3 6-2 - GAME, SET & MATCH! A first match point goes begging for Nadal with a netted forehand but he makes no mistake on the second, firing a series of forehands over the net, eventually drawing the error from Ferrer to wrap up the match.

NADAL 6-3 5-2 - A brilliant close at the net from Ferrer resulting in a lumging forehand stop volley winner off Nadal's attempted cross court passing shot, and the world number three has two break back points. He only needs the one though, much to the delight of the crowd who want to see this match continue, drawing Nadal into the net before hitting his dipping passing shot right at the feet of the world number one.

NADAL 6-3 5-1 - Ferrer avoids the ignominy of conceding a bagel set with an impressively battling service hold for the loss of just the one point, forcing Nadal to serve out the match with a forehand winner.

NADAL 6-3 5-0 - Ferrer is battling right to the end but it might not be far now as Nadal holds from deuce with a couple of big first serves that his opponent cannot return. Nadal has won 20 out of 23 points on his first serve today and Ferrer will have to serve to stay in this match after the change of ends.

NADAL 6-3 4-0 - BREAK! A decent serve from Ferrer is sent back short from Nadal but the world number three's approach shot is not good enough and Nadal whips a backhand passing shot winner across court to break for a second time in this second set.

NADAL 6-3 3-0 - A kicking serve from Nadal is sent back with extra kick from Ferrer leading the world number one to slap a forehand long and allow his opponent to level at deuce. Nadal quickly sets up another game point with a sliced serve out wide and smash winner before going on to hold when Ferrer fails to find the court with forehand down the line.

NADAL 6-3 2-0 - BREAK! Another punishing backhand from Nadal sees him sneak 15-30 ahead before the world number earns a break point after another error from Ferrer. And yet another tired looking shot from Ferrer in quick succession, hands Nadal the early break in this second set.

NADAL 6-3 1-0 - A forehand wide across court followed by a double fault makes what should be an easy love service hold for Nadal a slightly more complicated one at 40-30. Ferrer then drills a forehand winner down the line to level at deuce. But Nadal quickly slams the door shut though and holds without the loss of another point.

NADAL 6-3 - SET! Nadal races from one side of the baseline to the other, swishes his racquet at a low forehand on the run and flicks the ball down the line for a passing shot winner to bring up two set points. One is all Nadal needs though as Ferrer nets another forehand. Nadal has the first set.

NADAL 5-3 - A fantastic combination of shots from Nadal, including an inside out cross court forehand followed by a smash winner into the open court with Ferrer still floundering behind the baseline, and the world number one holds once again. Ferrer will have to serve to stay in this opening set next.

NADAL 4-3 - Better from Ferrer as he holds to keep the deficit down to just the one break in this opening set. A series of huge forehands from the older Spaniard causes a little trouble for Nadal, who ends up sending a forehand of his own long down the line to put an end to the game.

NADAL 4-2 - The relentless pressure from Nadal, who is yet to hit a winner, is beginning to tell now as Ferrer sends a fairly routine backhand long of the baseline to concede the first point of the game. Nadal's first winner comes on the second point of the game before a netted backhand from the world number three and then another backhand long hands Nadal his second love service game in quick succession.

NADAL 3-2 - BREAK! Ferrer sends a cross court forehand towards the side line and it is called out gifting Nadal the break back. No challenge from Ferrer although tv replays suggest the ball just caught the very outside of the line.

NADAL 2-2 - Much better from Nadal on serve this time around as he races through a love service game to level up. He ended the previous game with his ninth unforced error so he'll be pleased to have raced throughout that one without conceding anymore.

NADAL 1-2 - This is Ferrer's 87th match of the year and it shows just a little on a long, brutal rally which ends when the world number three is eventually ground down and hits long. Ferrer enjoys a game point chance, when Nadal nets a forehand, and a second when the top seed fires a backhand wide across court. And finally, Ferrer does take advantage of his third opportunity to close the game when Nadal again hits out.

NADAL 1-1 - Ferrer is also off to a quick start, getting up the court and taking on a couple of forehands of his own. But Nadal recovers quickly and flicks a forehand down the line forcing the error from his fellow Spaniard. But Ferrer earns himself an immediate break back chance just a couple of points later. He takes full advantage of the opportunity too, getting back on level terms, with a dipping forehand approach shot that Nadal can only volley wide on the backhand.

NADAL 1-0 - BREAK! Brilliant start from Nadal as he quickly earns himself a break point before flicking a spinning forehand low across court that Ferrer can only return into the net. Nadal is clearly in no mood for a repeat of Saturday's Paris semi-final today.

Here we go then. The players are ready and it will be David Ferrer to get the clash underway by serving first ...

The warm-up just about completed, Ferrer is just flinging down a few more serves. Pundits Boris Becker and Anabel Croft have both picked Ferrer to come out on top this afternoon.
