The Russian misses a painstakingly simple volley at the net, before Stosur goes long with a backhand. Dementieva then seizes the initiative with a powerful forehand into the open court, and she leads!

Dementieva loses an epic rally to begin the third set tie-break, but the Russian hits back with two stunning volleys to counter, and she leads 2-1!

Dementieva races to 30-0, but Stosur wins a long rally to peg her opponent back. The Russian does manage to hold with a fierce forehand cross court to close the game out, but she looks to be struggling with cramp now!

Stosur finds two touches of class from the back of the court to move to 30-0, and the fifth seed closes out the game with a flourish: a forehand down the line to assume a 6-5 lead in this final set.

The fifth seed wins the first two points of Dementieva's service game with crushing forehands from behind the baseline, but she then plants a tame stroke into the net. The Australian slips twice in losing long rallies, and another forehand into the net gives Dementieva the game.

Stosur moves to 30-15 with a crushing forehand down the line, and a cross-court stroke gives the Australian the game as she moves to within one of the match - can she clinch victory on the Dementieva serve now?

The Australian fires a rasping forehand down the line to get off to a flyer in Dementieva's service game and, after two fine serves, Dementieva goes long with a half-volley to take it to 30-30. The Russian holds firm to level at 4-4, and that is great resilience.

Stosur has to work incredibly hard to hold her serve after an extended deuce, with Dementieva having squandered two break points. The Gold Coast resident wraps up the game with a fine volley down the line, and she leads in this crucial stage of the final set!

Stosur is absolutely furious with herself as she goes long with an attempted backhand pass at 40-30 to hand Dementieva a hard-earned service hold. It's tough going for the Russian, but she holds on to close out the game and level.

Stosur hammers a forehand cross court to thwart Dementieva's attempted response, and the Australian is playing with a great deal of conviction in this final set. Can she force the break now?

Stosur continues to battle extremely hard, despite looking pretty weary. The Australian holds to 15 with a heavy reliance on her serve fro three cheap points, and now Dementieva has to respond.

Dementieva lets out a shriek of disapproval as she goes wide with a simple volley at the net, then plants a poor backhand into the net to give Stosur two break points! The Russian eventually holds, but not after a desperate struggle through deuce!

Stosur moves to 40-15 with a very confident serve and volley, before hammering a crisp forehand down the line to close out the game and establish herself in this third set.
