Hello and welcome to our coverage of day three of the WTA Championships in Istanbul, as Angelique Kerber takes on Li Na in the first match of the day. After both women lost to Red Group favourites Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams yesterday, the loser will go out, and the winner will probably not make the knockout phase either.

KERBER 4-6 3-6 - GAME SET AND MATCH! Li serving for the match again and takes the first point as Kerber returns long. Li elects to stick deep, conservatively just keeping it alive until Kerber nets. And now a crisp pass down the line gives Li three match points - TAKEN WITH AN ACE! And that's the end of Kerber. Li stays alive, a poor Kerber is out.
-
KERBER 4-6 3-5 - Kerber lets out a yelp as she suddenly finds another gear to bomb her way to 30-0. Li's next return is well long, but a double-fault pulls it back to 40-15. And a feisty point from Li makes it 40-30, flicking one wide of a tired Kerber, who holds her knee. Finally she does hold with a great winner out wide. Too little too late? Li serving for the match again...

KERBER 4-6 2-5 - BREAK BACK! Li to serve for the match with the new balls, but not after falling behind by pumping one long. Kerber returns the favour, before beating Li with a lovely angled drive. Unlucky with her next return, just wide of being a winner, and now it's break point as Li hits one wide too. This time Li gets her angle right with the forehand and it's deuce. Another break point as Kerber wins a rally at the net... Double fault. Deary me.

KERBER 4-6 1-5 - BREAK! Decent start for Kerber on serve as she gives Li the runaround, but she smacks a double-handed backhand long for 30-30. And now a break point as Kerber drifts one long, but saved with a cool backhand pass. But then she finds the net with a dreadful miss, looking half the player she was for 90mins yesterday. That break point is saved as Li goes long. It's back on though as Kerber spoons one in the air, Li burying it and taken with a superb running pass after a rally.
-
KERBER 4-6 1-4 - This will be a love hold from Li as Kerber looks to have given up the ghost, her usual pace and quickness of reaction totally gone. And an ace sees to that.

KERBER 4-6 1-3 - BREAK! Li is on a mission after that setback and she bullies Kerber from deep with some fine shots, although her forehand is still rather flat. And it's 0-30 after the net kills a Li forehand, Kerber unable to get there. And now three break points as Kerber weakly nets an approach forehand. The first is saved as Li's return flies wide; but Kerber's next follow-up is out and it's another break.

KERBER 4-6 1-2 - BREAK BACK!! A double fault from Li, her third today. Kerber, who has served like an amateur, on seven. A wonderful rally ensues a weak second serve and they're all over the place, lobs and volleys and a bizarre alley-oop with her back to Li at the baseline but Li wins it in the end. 30-30. But Kerber has that break-back point as Li misses a backhand crosscourt. and she breaks back with a volley at net after a scintilating baseline rally!

KERBER 4-6 0-2 - BREAK! Kerber completely falls apart on serve, unsurprising perhaps given she blew it against the world number one yesterday. Terrible serving once more from the German and Li is in charge now.
-
KERBER 4-6 0-1 Another love hold for Li as she takes the match to Kerber, who has lost five games on the trot now.

KERBER 4-6 - SET! So back on deuce in this vital game and a shockingly executed double-handed backhand from Kerber almost misses the outside of the court. Set point no.3 for Li... and Kerber double faults it away. She's serving terribly and has lost the first set as a result.
-
KERBER 4-5 - Set point to Li as Kerber seems to give up on a baseline shot that appeared to be going long - but finally she gets her serve together and it's deuce. But a double fault gives Li another set point! Terrible second serve. But a brave approach shot and booming winner levels for Kerber. And she has advantage now as Li can't get enough on her next return - snuffed out as a weak second serve is bossed by Li, who smashes an overhead away.
-
KERBER 4-5 - Good stuff from Kerber as she looks to regain that break, lovely bending forehand winner to start. Li levels as she makes Kerber work just a touch too hard on the next rally. Li unlucky as he winner seemed to clip the line to me, but no challenge. Li holds to 30 in the end as she serves just too well for Kerber. The German now serving to stay in the set.

KERBER 4-4 - BREAK BACK! Li starts aggressively as she looks to break back but after dictating the point she flops a dreadful forehand about two yards long. This is better from Li though as she wins the next two points on the bounce, a booming backhand putting her ahead. And now two break points as Kerber goes long! And a fantastic angled pass, almost a trick shot that bends away from Kerber and off the line, and it's a break back for Li. On terms again.
-
KERBER 4-3 - Li is looking more like her old self with some tasty forehands that leave Kerber on her knees and 30-0 down. Kerber then goes long after Li bosses the next point. But Kerber is back in it with a sweeping forehand drive across Li after some baseline bullets from both girls. Li still holds though, responding to that mini-setback with a smart second serve that Kerber can't control.
-
KERBER 4-2 - Better from Li as she shows that famous movement to reach and better Kerber's serves, but the German levels at 30-30 with a pinpoint angled drive into the right. Brilliant point from Kerber as she battles to stay in it before, on the run, conjuring up a flat forehand into space. Game point - taken as Li smacks a winner wide. She challenges... No, she doesn't, hold Kerber.
-
KERBER 3-2 - Better from Li as she bosses the first two service points with accurate deliveries that catch Kerber off balance. Kerber is one of the quicker in the game but she can't touch that second ace for 40-0. And a love hold for the Chinese thanks to a sweeping crosscourt drive that Kerber can only spoon high and long. Kerber still a break up though.
-
KERBER 3-1 - Li lets out a groan after spinning a forehand well wide. She felt there was a fault beforehand but not sure why she's moaning. Nice placed serve from Kerber for 40-0, but a double-fault blots the copybook. Fantastic rally from both women now, fantastic until Li misdirects one well wide. First hold and a good one for Kerber.

KERBER 2-1 - BREAK! And Kerber does break as, after pulling one back, Li can't live with her next return. Three breaks in a row now to kick off this match. Can Kerber hold?
