Palermo and Strasbourg champion, fourth seed, Anabel Medina Garrigues was knocked out by fellow Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 on a rain-drenched Wednesday at the Stockholm Open. Parra Santonja will meet Emilie Loit after the Frenchwoman beat Mara Santangelo 6-2 1-6 6-2.

Meanwhile fifth seed Katarina Srebotnik booked her place in the last eight with a crushing 6-0 6-1 victory over Russia's Ekaterina Bychkova.

After three hours of rain, Srebotnik received news of her quarter-final opponent.

Seventh seed Catalina Castano, the recent Budapest Open finalist, swept past French qualifier Emma Laine 7-6 (7-5) 6-1.
