Granville wins at last

Fourth seed Laura Granville snapped a six-match losing streak on Monday as the Vancouver Open made it's debut on the WTA Tour calendar. American Granville, who hadn't won a singles match since mid-May, defeated compatriot Samantha Reeves 7-5 6-1.

Two other seeds in action on dayone won their matches.

Second seed Milagros Sequera defeated Antonella Serra Zanetti 6-4 6-3 and sixth-ranked Rita Grande knocked out Belgium's Els Callens 6-4 6-4.

In other first round action, Jennifer Hopkins defeated Stephanie Foretz 6-3 6-4 and Galina Voskoboeva knocked off Sofia Arvidsson 6-2 6-4.
