Vaidisova will meet fifth seed Marissa Irvin, who defeated fellow American Meilen Tu 6-1 6-1. Eighth seed Lindsay Lee-Waters, looked equally as accomplished in a 6-3 6-4 win over Lioudmila Skavronskaia.

Top seed Marion Bartoli booked her place in the second round with a 6-0 6-1 victory over Italian Adriana Serra Zanetti, her next opponent will be France's Camille Pin, who advanced after countrywoman Severine Beltrame was forced to retire with an abdominal illness after a 6-0 first set.

Third seed Alina Jidkova will next play China's Shuai Peng , a 4-6 6-1 6-0 winner against Natalie Grandin, next.
