With 24 Hours of Le Mans landing this weekend, it's time to take a look at one of last year's shock competitors. Irish actor Michael Fassbender, best known for X-Men, 12 Years A Slave and Shame, realised a long-time dream by taking part at Le Mans. We look back at how he got on during his debut race and whether he will be tempted to do it all again as Le Mans returns in 2023.

Hollywood A-lister Michael Fassbender put four years of training to the test last year when he fulfilled a childhood dream: compete at 24 Hours of Le Mans.
"Acting is something that is my job. I'm more used to it and at home with it – it's like my natural office, but racing was always my first dream as a young boy," Fassbender explained.
"It's kind of tricky. I feel like acting is definitely my home work. I feel most comfortable in it, but this is the original dream.
"A victory in Le Mans, I would take over an Oscar."
So with the 2023 edition landing this weekend, will he fancy doing it all over again?

Will Fassbender race 24 hours of Le Mans again?

Yes! Fassbender is returning for a second attempt at Le Mans.

Who is Fassbender racing for at 24 hours of Le Mans?

Fassbender, 46, will once again turn out for German team Proton Competition in a Porsche 911.
He will be racing alongside Austrian Richard Lietz and Martin Rump of Estonia.

How did Fassbender get on last year at 24 hours of Le Mans?

The X-Men star failed to call on any super-powers in the race last year as he crashed three times.
He finished in 51st place out of 62 alongside his team-mates Zach Robichon and Matt Campbell.

What is Fassbender's racing history?

Fassbender’s love of racing has been more than a hobby for some time, with his ambitions as a driver being very much a side hustle alongside acting.
Starting out with Scuderia Corsa’s Ferrari Challenge team in 2017, he raced in a Porsche championship.
He first hit the European Le Mans Series in 2020 and documented his progress as part of a vlog series on Porche’s YouTube channel.
In FIA driver categorisation terms, Fassbender holds a bronze license.
One definition for this type of license says the driver was over 30 years old when his/her first license was issued, and has little or no single-seater experience.
