It refers to the Peugeot 307s driven by double world champion Gronholm and team mate Harri Rovanpera who came fifth, and the Citroens of Loeb of France and Spain's Carlos Sainz, who was fourth.

A statement from the organisers said the technical check would be carried out on Wednesday May 19th. "Until then, the final official classification of the 2004 Cyprus Rally is to be considered subject to further technical checks by the FIA."

Finn Gronholm provisionally won the 18-stage Cyprus rally by 54 seconds over Loeb. Estonia's Markko Martin was third in a Ford.
