It had been a frustrating start for the Scots, who lost their first five matches of the competition, but came back to take victories over Russia and the USA on Tuesday.
It was not exactly the ideal start to proceedings against the Russians as the Scots fell 3-0 behind in the opening end but two in the second and another two in the third gave them the lead.
A single-point steal in the fourth put the Scots 5-3 ahead before the Russians fought back to level 5-5 in the sixth but MacDonald's men were too strong and took the match 8-6.
It was in their second match of the day that the Scots showed real skill as they found themselves at 4-4 against the USA at the end of the eighth.
With his last effort of the tenth MacDonald played inside three American stones to take two points and win the match.
"It's really amazing the difference of getting a win makes. It just shows you how winning this morning give you momentum," said MacDonald.
"If you get out quicker and get some momentum it's a totally different feeling. If you go a couple down, you're back's against the wall and you're fighting a bit.
"It's nice to finish the day on another win. Dinner will taste a lot sweeter tonight. Yesterday was a tough night."
Elsewhere Canada tasted their first defeat of the competition at the hands of Norway but still lead the way after 11 sessions.
