Earlier in the day Russia had claimed an emphatic victory over Scotland to take bronze but it was all eyes on the final as the competition came to a close.
In the end Jennifer Jones couldn't find enough to see off the Swiss charge as Patz and co came through 5-3 for the win.
The Swiss rink led 4-0 before the Canadians got themselves on the board in the seventh end and then narrowed the lead to 4-3 in the ninth.
In a nip and tuck tenth the Canadians had their openings but it was the Swiss who came through triumphant with a single point on their last rock.
