Having drawn the attention of big clubs following a stellar Premier League season with title winners Leicester City, the France international has been linked with a number of clubs, including Real Madrid.
However, Le Parisien reported on Wednesday that a fee of £29 million has now been agreed between the Foxes and Chelsea for the star midfielder, who starred for Euro 2016 finalists, France, this summer.
Though a long-term future at Chelsea might look more appealing, Kante, who joined Leicester for a fee of just £5.6m last summer from Caen, would forego the opportunity to play Champion’s League football next season should the move be made.
Meanwhile with Leicester City desperate to keep hold of the players that helped them to surprise league victory last season The Telegraph reports that they will offer the 25-year-old a new and improved contract, after he rejected a deal worth £100,000 a week.
But it may not just be a matter of money: Claude Makelele told The Sun that his compatriot should move on to a bigger club: "He still has the same way of playing, the same happiness, but he needs to play in a big team."
