Konta went into the match as the No.13 seed in the competition and the No.1 British female player and despite a tough battle from her opponent she makes it through to the next round.
The first game required a couple of strong breaks from Konta and it swung in the eighth when she made it 5-3 with a double handed backhand into the corner and then a nerveless winner to set up a break in the ninth to take the set.
Mattek-Sands became more aggressive in the second, knowing she had to produce something to disrupt Konta's flow but it didn't work and the American just became more and more frustrated with herself.
The seventh game in the second set was closely fought but when Konta managed to save four break points and go to 5-2 it was all over for Mattek-Sands.
Konta will now face Tsvetana Pironkova in the next round where she will be able to set-up a possible third round match with world No. 7 Belinda Bencic.
