Dino Duva, the promoter of Samuel Peter, is calling on WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev's promoter Dennis Rappaport to begin negotiations for the mandated title defence.
"I have requested in a letter that the WBC order negotiations to begin immediately," said Duva, on the heels of Peter' dominating victory over James Toney in the WBC title eliminator on Saturday.
"I would like to sit down with Dennis Rappaport as soon as tomorrow, to begin negotiations and make a fair deal for the fight. I am confident we can work it out. In the unlikely scenario that we don't, we go to a purse bid.
"Jose Sulaiman and the WBC have made it clear that they are honoring their commitment for Maskaev to defend his title against Samuel Peter immediately," added Duva. "We respect Oleg, know that he is a true champion, and expect him to honor that commitment."
Duva concluded that "Samuel Peter has earned the right to fight for the title, so Dennis and Maskaev should do the right thing and get it done as soon as possible."
