The 5-4 win over Japan, coupled with yesterday's defeat, puts the hosting Swedes a point behind Yannick Schwaller's rink in Group A.
"It feels like we're playing better and better,” said the 33-year-old skip.
"It would feel nice to earn the spot rather than getting it for free [on ranking points], so we're definitely looking to do better than the final last time."
There was more shoot-out drama in Scotland's Group B match against Canada too after Ross Paterson grabbed a single with his last stone to force an extra end and clinch victory at the death, maintaining their unbeaten record.
Switzerland were involved in a back and forth with Korey Dropkin's USA and held only a single-point advantage until the penultimate end, when a double score helped ensure victory for Schwaller's team.
Meanwhile, Norway ran out 10-6 winners over China to also stay undefeated and despite Ma Xiuyue's side scoring three-points in the penultimate end, Scotland responded in kind to take the match away from China, who have now lost three games in a row.
In the only mixed doubles game of the morning, Russia's pair of Maria Komarova and Daniil Goriachev recorded their third win in Jonkoping, defeating China 8-3 in seven ends.
