Sweden's men laid down a marker as the curling competition got underway at Sochi 2014, winning both of their opening round robin games,
While Sweden's women claimed gold four years ago at the 2010 Vancouver Games, their male counterparts ended the competition empty handed.
And they appear hellbent on changing all that this year around as they saw off the challenges of Switzerland and Great Britain at the ice Cube Curling Center.
Both Switzerland and Great Britain ended the day with identical won-loss records, as they beat Canada and hosts Russia respectively.
Elsewhere, China and Norway won their only games of the day – against Denmark and the USA - while Russia ended the day with two losses after they also lost to the Danes in the day's final game.
In the women's competition, reigning champions Sweden and silver medallist from Vancouver Canada got off to winning starts as they beat Great Britain and China respectively.
Meanwhile, there were also wins for hosts Russia – who beat Denmark – and Switzerland, as they saw off the challenge of America 7-4.
