61KM TO GO: POGACAR COMPLETELY ISOLATED
It's all happening out there... After UAE and Pogacar closed down that attack from Roglic and Benoot on the Telegraph, a select group of five has formed on the descent after Roglic kicked on over the summit. The yellow jersey is here but without any of his UAE teammates, surrounded by a Jumbo-Visma trio of Roglic, Vingegaard and Laporte, who has been caught from the breakaway, and Geraint Thomas of Ineos. It looks like Adam Yates has missed this move, while Ineos' third British rider in the top 10, Tom Pidcock, was tailed off near the summit of the Telegraph.

62KM TO GO: BREAKAWAY ONTO THE COL DU GALIBIER
There's no let-up as the leaders complete the short downhill and now move onto the next climb, the mighty Col du Galibier. It's the first hors category (HC) climb of this race and the first of two times the riders will go above 2,000m today. It's 17.7km long at 6.9% with the Prix Henri Desgrange - for the highest point of the race - up for grabs going over the top.

68KM TO GO: LATOUR TAKES KOM POINTS OVER SUMMIT OF THE TELEGRAPH
Meanwhile, back on the front of the race it's Frenchman Pierre Latour who doubles up and goes over the top of the climb in pole position ahead of compatriot Warren Barguil to pocket the 10pts. Simon Geschke can only take third place - but that will be enough points to preserve his lead in the polka dot jersey classification. The German clearly has a battle on his hands from that man Latour, though.

69KM TO GO: ROGLIC ATTACKS WITH TEAMMATE BENOOT!
And here we go! Jumbo-Visma had clearly been planning something and there's proof: Primoz Roglic zips clear of the main field with the help of his Jumbo-Visma teammate Tiesj Benoot. Adam Yates of Ineos Grenadiers is first to react before Tadej Pogacar closes the gap with some UAE colleagues. The Tour starts today...

70KM TO GO: MATHIEU VAN DER POEL ABANDONS
Well, that was a long time coming... The Dutchman had one last roll of the dice today with his early break alongside Wout van Aert. But he was dropped early on the Lacets de Montvernier and was clearly struggling to replicate the form from his Giro on this Tour. So, that leaves Alpecin-Deceuninck down to six riders following the earlier withdrawal of Michael Gogl.

73KM TO GO: CALEB EWAN OFF THE BACK WITH LOTTO SOUDAL TEAMMATES
The Australian sprinter was the last man to cross the line yesterday and he will have another struggle on his hands today. Ewan had been dropped from the peloton and currently has teammates Andreas Kron, Philippe Gilbert, Tim Wellens and Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg nursing him on the Telegraph. Peter Sagan has also been distanced. Given the route of this year's Tour, it's crazy that Lotto built their team around an out-of-sorts sprinter like Ewan. There's a sprint opportunity possibly later this week ar Saint Etienne and over the weekend in Carcassonne - but neither are flat parcours. Other than that it's Stage 19 to Cahors or the Champs-Elysees on Stage 21.

76KM TO GO: BREAKAWAY DOWN TO 10 RIDERS
German champion Nils Politt is the latest rider to be distanced after helping pave the way for his Bora teammate Schachmann. Cattaneo, after his early efforts to join Van Aert and the departed Van der Poel, has been distanced too, ditto Bodnar and Pedersen. So, that leaves Van Aert, Cherel, Schachmann, Geschke, Izagirre, Teuns, Rutsch, Barguil, Latour and Neilands on the front - although, as I type, Cattaneo has managed to claw himself back into contention.

78KM TO GO: TELEGRAPH TAKING ITS TOLL ON BREAKAWAY
Poor Alpecin-Deceuninck - they placed two riders in the break but Van der Poel popped on the first climb and Van Kiersbulck is first to implode on the second... Also off the back on this tough test are Tony Gallopin, Andrea Bagioli, Kamil Gradek and Christophe Laporte... Just 12 riders from the 19 who started together are currently together, with Jonas Rutsch digging deep on the back to keep up with the pace being set by Max Schachmann and Simon Geschke.

80KM TO GO: CAT.1 COL DU TELEGRAPH
With a gap of eight minutes over the peloton, the 19-man break starts the first major test today - the Cat.1 ascent of the Telegraph, which is 11.9km long at 7.1%. It's essentially the warm-up slope to the fearsome Galibier beyond - the same Galiber that the riders will tackle tomorrow, too, but from the other side.

90KM TO GO: OVER FIVE MINUTES FOR LEADERS
The 19 leaders have completed the short descent of the Lacets de Montvernier and continue their sweltering slog towards the foot of the Col du Telegraph. The hap is up to 5'30" while that man Mathieu van der Poel, who instigated the initial move with Wout van Aert, is now three minutes adrift and almost back with the peloton.

98KM TO GO: OLIVER NAESEN ABANDONS
The Belgian hasn't been at the races in this Tour and yesterday he was clearly struggling off the back. Rather than attempt the climb of the Lacets de Montvernier, Naesen opted to wait for his Ag2R-Citroen car, which he is about to clamber into after tearing off his number. Race over.

101KM TO GO: LATOUR DENIES GESCHKE MAXIMUM POINTS OVER SUMMIT
Pierre Latour kicks clear to take the maximum 5pts over the summit of the Lacets de Montvernier climb with Simon Geschke forced to settle for second place and 3pts. The puts the German up to 22pts in the KOM standings, four clear of Stage 9 winner Bob Jungels and eight clear of Frenchman Thibaut Pinot. Latour is now up to fourth place on 13pts and so we may have a little dual on our hands in today's breakaway....

103KM TO GO: VAN DER POEL THE FIRST TO BE DROPPED
The Dutchman has struggled to replicate his usual swashbuckling form in this Tour and he's already drifting off the back of the breakaway on this climb. The 20 leaders held a gap of four minutes going onto this scenic ascent, with Jumbo-Visma and Ineos Grenadiers setting tempo behind. Well, that was the case until three UAE riders muscled in: Soler, Majka and Bjerg. It's going to be a long day for them.

105KM TO GO: BREAKAWAY ONTO THE LACETS DE MONTVERNIER
The picture-postcard Cat.2 Lacets de Montvernier is 3.4km long at 8.2% - a narrow and steep succession of 17 tightly packed hairpin bends cut out on the side of a cliff-face with vertiginous views over the valley of the Arc river. The actual hairpin segment of the climb is 2.1km long and took six years to build but the ascent continues on to the village beyond. When the Tour first came up here a few years ago they didn't allow any cars up it. I recall Romain Bardet perhaps being up the road if my mind serves me rightly...

110KM TO GO: GAP GROWS ABOVE TWO MINUTES AS PELOTON SITS UP
The peloton seems content to let this one go - that's because there are no dangerous GC figures up the road, the Frenchman Barguil the best placed on GC at 13'33". Geschke will be eyeing up some KOM points to extend his lead in the polka dot jersey classification while riders like Izagirre, Latour, Teuns, Bagioli and Cattaneo will be hoping for a win - although given what's on the menu later today, that will be highly unlikely. Still, the gap is now pushing three minutes so you never know.

115KM TO GO: 20 RIDERS IN BREAK AHEAD OF FIRST CLIMB
No sooner had Cattaneo bridged over than the newly formed trio decided to sit up and wait for the cavalry. Reinforcements came in the form of 17 counter-attackers so we now have 20 men up the road. They are: Christophe Laporte and Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma), Mikael Cherel (Ag2R-Citroen), Nils Politt and Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), Andrea Bagioli and Mattia Cattaneo (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl), Simon Geschke and Ion Izagirre (Cofidis), Kamil Gradek and Dylan Teuns (Bahrain Victorious), Mathieu van der Poel and Guillaume Van Keirsbulck (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Jonas Rutsch (EF Education-EasyPost), Warren Barguil (Arkea-Samsic), Mads Pedersen and Tony Gallopin (Trek-Segafredo), Maciej Bodnar and Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies), and Krists Neilands (Israel-Premier Tech).

122.5KM TO GO: AND THEN THERE WERE THREE
Mattia Cattaneo has managed to join Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel in a leading trio that is getting very little leeway from a large chasing group of around 18 riders. More and more are trying to bridge over to this breakaway, including two Jumbo-Visma riders. They clearly have a strategy today of all-out attack at every opportunity!

127KM TO GO: CATTANEO IN PURSUIT OF TWO LEADERS
That six-man chase group was snuffled out and now it's the lone and rather ungainly figure of Mattia Cattaneo (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) who is using the tailwind as assistance as he closes in on Van Aert and Van der Poel. But the gaps are small and, on this stretch of road, the strung-out peloton can be seen behind.
