So, we have a new race leader: Chris Froome of Team Sky goes into the lead of the Vuelta, 12 seconds ahead of Dane Jakob Fuglsang (Leopard Trek) and 20 seconds ahead of team-mate and compatriot Bradley Wiggins. Defending champion Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) is well poised in fourth, at 34 seconds.

Mollema crosses the line 3:09 down and will lose the red jersey. Rodriguez then brings this ITT to a conclusion with a time 5:24 down on today's winner Tony Martin.

Just Mollema and Rodriguez to arrive now - in reverse order (the Dutchman passed the Spaniard a few kilometres back).

Here comes Nibali. The Italian defending champion loses 2:24 to Martin at the finish. That's not too bad and will set him up well for the second half of the race.

It hasn't been too good for Van den Broeck either, who crosses the line 3:56 down. Next to finish is astana's Kessiakoff, 2:18 down, which is not bad.

Daniel Moreno has had a shocker. The Katusha climber crosses the line 5:26 off the back of Martin.
16:31
Nibali has five more kilometres to go. Further back, Rodriguez refuses to give up and holds the wheel of Mollema, who has just overtaken him.
16:29
Mollema is catching Rodriguez. No surprise there, given the Spaniard's time trialling credentials.

Here comes Jakob Fuglsang, and this is a good time. The Leopard Trek man crosses the line 1:37 down on Martin. That could be enough to take the red jersey, although there are still bonus seconds for the top three to take into account.

Nibali is 1:30 down at the second check. It looks like Froome is going to be in red tonight.

Wiggins and Froome rode contrasting ITTs: the former started like a monster before fading, while the latter starting solid and continuing solidly right to the end.

Wiggins won't beat Martin... and he may not even beat Froome. Despite that early promise, he has tailed off today. Here he comes now in the closing straight, yes, he's outside Froome's time: 1:22 down on Martin and provisional third place for the day.

Wiggins really does look beautiful on his bike. His back is flat, his shoulders static. He's approaching Salamanca now - over the bridge he goes... and under the 1km-to-go banner.

Chris Froome crosses the finish line to set the second best time so far, 59 seconds down on Martin's target. What an excellent ride from the Kenyan-born Brit.
16:14
Nibali has two motorbikes ahead of him, a TV bike alongside him, his team car, a neutral car and the medical car all behind him. That's quite some Cavalcade for the defending champion.

Jakob Fuglsang is 44 seconds down at the second check - which is pretty impressive given that chain slip right at the beginning. Martin still leads the second check, 19 ahead of Wiggins and 29 ahead of Froome.

Scarponi is a huge 4:30 down at the finish - that's a huge dent to his GC hopes.

Red jersey Bauke Mollema could only manage the 24th best time at the first check, 53 seconds down on Wiggins' effort.
