Pantano pays for his efforts as Atapuma surges past him to take the 3pts over the top of the climb, ahead of one of the Bora-Hansgrohe riders - either Poljanski or Benedetti. No sign of Villella, the polka dot jersey, who today has increased his KOM tally to 38 points, with Atapuma now his nearest rival on 14 points.

Pantano is out of the saddle and setting the tempo on this climb now, with his fellow Colombian, Atapuma, just behind. Should the break stay out, Pantano is a good shout for the win because he's a superb descender. The increase in tempo has seen many riders drop off the back - including Jungels...

The break are well onto the Cat.3 Puerto del Oronet (6.4km at 4%) with a gap of 2:25 over the pack. Jan Polanc comes onto the front for UAE Team Emirates, who also have that man Atapuma in this break.

Jungels and Montfort have been reeled in - largely thanks to some huge pace-setting by Astana duo Jesper Hansen and Sergei Chernetckii, who have been working hard for their leader today, Luis Leon Sanchez. As a result, Chernetckii is now pedalling squares after peeling off at the start of the climb. Big effort from the Russian.

The gap comes down to 40 seconds for the two leaders - who are combining well but not making much headway - as they approach the foot of the fourth climb of the day.

It's quite a blustery day out there and the race is quite cagy. Jungels and Montfort have managed to open up a gap of 55 seconds over the other escapees, but the peloton is only another 1:20 further back, so Sky aren't giving them much leeway.

Jungels, the Luxembourg national champion, is strong all-rounder who has twice top-tenned in the Giro. He's a bit off the pace in his first Vuelta since 2014 but that means he can target stage wins - like he's doing today. The Quick-Step rider is over 10 minutes down on GC and is riding this Vuelta for his own personal ambitions, as well as for those of his Quick-Step leader David de la Cruz, who is currently fifth.

Jungels aside, there are some very strong riders in this break - most notably Pantano, Soler - who was on the offensive yesterday, taking third place at the finish - Villella, Bennett, Atapuma, Polanc, Sanchez, Morton and the American national champion, Warbasse. Luis Leon Sanchez - for whom team-mate Lutsenko buried himself to take him up to the break earlier today - is the best placed on GC, 3'24" down.

The two leaders have a gap of 30 seconds over the other escapees, with the pack a further two minutes back. Team Sky are keeping the gap down for their man in red, Chris Froome.

Right, let's go back live now, and Bob Jungels and Maxime Montfort have edged ahead of the other escapees on the descent of the third climb.

On the third climb of the day, the Cat.3 Alto de Chirivilla, it was Atapuma - and not Villella - who took the maximum points, the Colombian cresting ahead of the Italian and Montfort.

José Gonçalves (Katusha-Alpecin) became the eighth rider the withdraw from the race after a crash inside the first two hours of a frantic stage with an average speed of 42.8km/h.

On the second climb of the day, the Cat.3 Puerto de Eslida, Villella once again picked up maximum 3pts ahead of Atapuma and Monfort. But the leading group shed a lot of ballast, including yesterday's winner Lutsenko. Also dropping off the radar were Trentin, Caruso, Geniez, Scully, Haller, Courteille and Bonnafond.

Over the first Cat.3 climb, the Alto de Alcuidio de Veo, Davide Villella kept up his polka-dot run by snaring the maximum 3pts ahead of Chevrier and Domont. Meanwhile, Team Sky led the chase behind the 37 leaders, with the gap just over a minute after 55km of racing.
