STEFAN KUNG: WE WANTED TO GIVE THE WOMEN SOME ADVANTAGE

We knew the course by heart, after racing ten laps on it on Sunday. On a TT bike with a TT helmet it was a little bit different but Mauro and I know each other really well - we did the last two editions together, so we each trusted each other. We also know that we don't have to overcook it. Otherwise what happens to Marlen happens, and a few other teams, that you go down. We wanted to put the ladies on a good track and give them some advantage.

MARLEN REUSSER: EXCEPT ME, WE HAVE THE SKILLS

I'm sorry for my team if I might have frightened them a bit. For the spectators it might have made it a bit interesting, but I'm good. I think we can be really proud. It's one thing to win once, twice shows we have the strength and the skills - maybe except of me! - but we are a good team, I think. Our commitment, I don't who was first but we said when we do it again, we do it all again.

JOS VAN EMDEN: YOU LOSE ONE GUY, YOU LOSE SPEED

We expected something like this could happen. We already lost one rider this morning. We said many things can happen, so we're just going to go full gas, and maybe other teams are also unlucky, and we can still go for a podium spot. But you lose one guy, you lose speed, and the fatigue increases.

SWITZERLAND ARE THE WORLD TEAM TIME TRIAL RELAY CHAMPIONS!

Seven seconds the difference in the head, but then they only needed one for gold. Reusser and Chabbey sprinted to the line, having dropped off Nicole Koller on the final climb.

Heartbreak for Great Britain (not really but y'know) who are denied a medal, but great performance from them all the same, having had to make a late substitution.

SWITZERLAND LOOKING GOOD WITH 2.5KM LEFT

They need to get home in 210 seconds to retain the title. Italy are well out of it, finishing more than a minute slower than France as Britain hang on in 3rd.

AUSTRALIA OFF THE PODIUM
A few problems on the course for men and women, means they can finish no higher than 4th. Still a very good ride, all things considered. France are guaranteed a medal of some colour, but can Britain hang on for the bronze?

BIG PROBLEM FOR PERSICO
First she can't get back into the big ring, and then she loses her chain entirely. She needs a bike change and Italy are still in with a chance of a medal, but that's probably the rainbow jersey heading up the road.

FALL FOR SWITZERLAND'S MARLEN REUSSER

Not a rider they can do without, and she's back up and riding very quickly, considering how heavy that was. Elicits a headshake from Stefan Kung as he's warming down.
15:40
GREAT BRITAIN FINISH 56 SECONDS DOWN

Good enough for second place for now, but probably not even the podium at the end of the day.
15:34
GREAT BRITAIN STILL ALL TOGETHER

All three riders, including Glaswegian Anna Shackley, as one. We're only seeing helicopter shots of the Brits, for some reason. They have about 4 minutes to cover the 3.5km remaining, so it's fair to say they won't be going home with any stripy jumpers.

SWITZERLAND ARE LOOKING VERY VERY GOOD
It was expected, but like clockwork, the Swiss set the fastest time at 25'35. The men's time stays in green, and Kung and Schmid hand their women an eighteen second lead that they only to defend. This is the same six that won in Australia, and they look set to do it again.

ITALY HANDOVER IN FIRST PLACE

What a ride from Alberto Bettiol and Matteo Cattaneo, having lost their younger third rider some time ago. Can the Italian women finish it off?

AUSTRALIA NOT COMPLETELY OUT OF IT
But work to do for this team, with 6 others in front of them at the half, even as the women have only 22 seconds to make up.

GERMANY CAN'T BEAT FRANCE, OR CAN THET?

As their men hand over to their women, they're behind by just 9 seconds, and well within range.

BRITISH WOMEN WITH IT ALL TO DO

Considering they lost Josh Charlton, for reasons still unknown, to end their run just 19 seconds behind France, Britain's duo put in an almighty ride. Can Anna Shackley, Pfeiffer Georgi and Elynor Backstedt make that up over their 20km run?

DAAN HOULE INTO THE BARRIERS
He ran very wide on a lefty, and is out of the game. He's been given another bike, but he won't be rejoining his team-mates.

CURRENT TOP FIVE FINISHERS

1 FRANCE 54'23
2 USA +1'38
2 AUSTRIA +1'50
3 POLAND +2'39

Because just as I was about to post that with the USA at the top, France went supersonic.

AUSTRALIA'S LUKE PLAPP OUT OF THE GAME ALREADY
Just a few hundred metres into their men's run, he loses it on a left hand bend. He was the middle rider, and Michael Matthews did well to stay upright himself, but was slowed massively. They'll also have to ride with two for the duration.
