Welcome to Chelsea's opening fixture of the 2010-11 Champions League, with the English champions given a trip to Slovakian minnows Zilina.

Unlike Manchester United's second string, Chelsea's fringe players - such as Sturridge, Zhirkov, Mikel, Benayoun - have done the business. Expect Gael Kakuta to get a run out later too.

3-0. Terry heads Malouda's corner off the underside of the bar, poor marking, and Anelka taps the rebound over the line.

Sturridge cuts in from the right and unleashes a ferocious low drive that the keeper puts behind for a corner.

Well that silenced the home fans. On second look the keeper should have done better than that, Anelka did not hit it all that hard and it seemed to slip under him.

That's the difference between the good and the great. Anelka with a superb run off the last defender to reach Mikel's lofted pass into the left side of the box and he drills a low finish under the keeper and inside the right-hand post for 2-0.

Chelsea instigate a spell of possession as they try to exert some territorial dominance after a couple of good chances for the hosts.

Good move Zilina and should have scored! Ceesay gets hold of the ball in lots of space on the right, clipping a hanging cross for Bello which he heads low on goal but which Cech claims. Not enough pace on the cross or power on the header.

Malouda fouls Rilka. Chelsea need to get some control back on this game.

Pecalka makes a superb run from defence, he's all the way up to the edge of the box and slips it wide to Ceesay on the left, he has tons of space but makes a bad, bad decision in shooting low at the near post, well wide! There were yellow shirts queueing up!

Zilina look excited after that as Mraz and Jez put a few balls into the box.

Chelsea line up a wall on the edge of the box, Jez to take... he puts it low and through the wall AND CECH SPILLS IT but gets on to the loose ball as it trickled towards the bottom right!!

Terry fouls Oravec as he runs through the middle of the Chelsea defence after Anelka gave it away on half-way. Could have been a yellow, but just a word for the Blues skipper.

GOAL ESSIEN! 1-0 and Essien drills it into the bottom left after Anelka runs on to Essien's own through ball before cutting it back to Malouda, who steps over the ball for Essien to complete a rather unconvetional one-two as he arrives late in the box.

Malouda is set to take this from the left, not too far from the byline... short to Terry but behind him, so he lays it off to Sturridge who smacks it well over.

Malouda tries to find Anelka again but cleared, Zhirkov doing well to win a throw though. now Chelsea have a free-kick on the left, Zhirkov clipped by Guldan.

Malouda has lots of space on the left but fails to release it quickly enough for Anelka. He instead looks to Sturridge but he loses control of the ball on the edge of the box.

Benayoun's first delivery is cleared but he gets another bite at it but puts the cross too close to Dubravka.

Chelsea get their first corner of the night and Benayoun trots to the left to take it, jeers from the home fans.

Sturrudge on the right takes one touch, loses it but regains the ball and gets around Mraz, he has space but the low ball into the box is cleared.

Mraz gets forward again but Cech claims the cross near post. A good start from the home side.

Zhirkov finds Benayoun but his cross is too close to Dubravka, who claims easily.
