And Liverpool equalise! A far more interesting start there than there has been here.

Ronaldo performs his first amateur dramatics of the night and wins a free-kick. It's pumped in towards Ramos but Basel Keeper Tomas Vaclik does well to come and claim it.

Breel Embolo, who scored against Ludgorets, threatens to burst into the box. There's a roar of excitement, which always surrounds this promising 17-year-old. Yes, 17.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti: "We are qualified but we want to win with the best team possible to be sure of finishing first in the group. All the teams need to pick up points. It will be a good game with lot of rhythm and intensity."

Basel boss Paulo Sousa: "It won't be the same game as at the Bernabéu, when everything was new for us [and we lost 5-1]. Here we are more at ease and we will keep playing the same way as always. If we are more efficient than in the first game and block their counterattacks, we can get a great result."

Last night something quite important happened. Lionel Messi became the all-time leading Champions League goalscorer, a hattrick taking him to 74. It means Ronaldo is lagging behind on a mere 70. He'll be keen tonight to make sure he keeps the Barcelona man within his sights as the battle for supremacy rages on.

Both sides are very much in-form. Madrid have won 14 successive games in all competitions, netting 56 goals in the process. Basel, meanwhile, boast a five-match winning run and are unbeaten in their last 8 competitive matches at St. Jakob-Park.

A little about the situation in Group B. Madrid have already qualififed for the last-16 and will do so as group winners unless Basel stick five past them. I know, next joke. Basel can qualify tonight at the expense of Liverpool if they win and the English club don't.

For the hosts, Ivan Ivanov, striker Marco Streller and Taulant Xhaka are all sidelined, while Serey Die completes a two-match ban.

So Madrid make changes at the back but going forward they still look at almost full strength. Keylor Navas makes his Champions League debut in place of Iker Casillas in goal, while centre-back Pepe is rested by Ancelotti. But if Basel thought they may face a weakened team tonight they can think again. Ronaldo, Bale, James, Benzema and Kroos all start, while Isco continues in the absence of Luka Modric.
