Rashford diddles Von Bergen with a lovely drop of the shoulder, drawing the slide and skipping away; Rashford is crowded out, and it looks like Von Bergen may have to go off.

Also in this group, Juventus and Valencia are 0-0. United really need a result here, because if both matches are draws, if Valencia beat them in Spain, Valencia go through.

I'm yet to find a reason why United need Matic in this game.

Great pass from Fred, who gets it out of his feet and quickly arcs one into Martial, who could shoot but opts to come inside into his right foot, whereupon he's tackled.

Bayern now lead Benfica 2-0. Arjen Robben got the ball on the right; guess what he did next!

Martial lumps a shot that Camara takes in the body; he goes down but United carry on and Lingard's shot is blocked behind by Von Bergen. The ensuing corner causes minor panic but Fellaini is then penalised for shoving.

United win a free-kick 40 yards out, right-hand side, and Fred whips in a menace but Matic goes too early, leaping to control but flagged offside.

Smalling is playing like Sammer! He punches a ball into Lingard who, on the half-turn, flicks deliciously into Rashford, 25 yards out. He takes a touch, has a look, and smacks a zooter that skids just past the far post.

Mbabu fouls Fellaini and is given a last warning, then Lingard attacks space and Jones finds him, but the low cross for Rashford is too strong.

The ref's wiring has come loose, so the lino adjusts his dress.

At least United are trying, a nice touch from Fellaini setting up an attack that founders at Lingard, whose tee-up for Matic is short. So Aebischer breaks and has men alongside ... so Matic clatters him lest he be forced to run and Shaw climbs over Sow. Eventually Jones puts paid to the attack, and the ref goes back to book Matic; Shae escapes.

Lovely from united, Smalling caressing a diag for Shaw , who finds Martial ... and his backflick plays him in ... but the flag goes up, though no one is offside.

In Germany, Shakhtar lead Hoffenheim 2-1.

More nice interplay down the left, this time between Shaw, Fellaini and Martial. If United are to achieve anything tonight, chances are it's coming from down there.

One long hump down the line is enough to set Martial away, but with plenty of support he opts to dance about on a frolic of his own, tripping over the ball. He does fight to recover it, but United never quite have control of the attack again.

Nice from United, Fred into Martial who finds Shaw who finds Fellaini, and a fine reverse-pass puts Rashford in on the left of the box. He could try and square it for Martial, but opts to shoot, picking out Von Ballmoos.
