Manchester City versus RB Leipzig LIVE: Champions League Group G qualifiers in action

Manchester City produced a superb second half performance to recover from being from two goals down and beat RB Leipzig and secure top spot in Champions League Group G.

After a lacklustre start the introduction of Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku early in the second half changed everything. Phil Foden set up a goal for Erling Haaland before an adroit finish of his own pulled the game level.

After more good work by Foden it was Alvarez that settled the match with three minutes of the game left, as City maintained their perfect record in this year’s competition with a fifth win in a row.

The hosts started slowly in the first half and paid heavily for it. Lois Openda rolled Manuel Akanji to go clean through and score after 13 minutes. Later in the half, he then beat Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol on a long run that he capped with a low drive into the net.

Both sides had already qualified before tonight, so RB Leipzig are assured of second place in the group. They will now host Young Boys on the final match day, while Manchester City face an away trip to Red Star Belgrade.

What a second half from him there. He was decisive in creating the first and third, and scored this pearler to pull it level.

Nothing comes of it though, and the final whistle soon goes. Manchester City have won the group.

Alvarez dances past three, plays a one-two with Lewis and only a stretching intervention from Klostermann prevents City getting a look at goal.

What a bizarre game. City didn't turn up in the first half, but have rolled up one sock in the second and reeled in RB Leipzig pretty comfortably.

Gomez replaces Gvardiol for City.

The comeback is complete! Doku fizzes a ball low into Foden, who cushions it superbly on the run. Foden then drills it into the middle to Alvarez via a slight deflection. Alvarez sets himself, and whips a low shot into the bottom corner.

He takes on two down the left, beating one and winning a corner off another. City eventually lump it in to Haaland, who plants a header straight at Blaswich again. He's annoyed with himself, because he was under no pressure.

City work a short corner to give Alvarez a look at a curler from the left edge of the area, but he whips it straight at Blaswich.

There's a real freedom both teams are playing with now, and I guess it helps if you're safe in the knowledge that you've qualified for the next round. I wouldn't be surprised to see a winner at either end here.

Klostermann lofts a ball forwards to Carvalho, who lets it hit his backside to find Sesko. It's lovely skill, and Sesko's return ball to Carvalho gets Leipzig in, and Carvalho tucks it home...but the goal is hooked as Carvalho was offside when the ball was played forwards.

Carvalho and Poulsen replace Haidara and Xavi for Leipzig. The latter has been superb tonight, but exits in tears; he went down in the previous move and had been receiving treatment threreafter.

Sesko picks up a loose ball and runs it to the edge of the area. He has a crack with his right, but it's straight at Ortega who palms it over.

We're level! What a gorgeous finish this is. Gvardiol finds Foden with a zipped pass into the penalty area. Foden lets the ball beat Simakan, before passing a cool shot through the legs of Klostermann and past Blaswich.

Alvarez drops a City free kick into the box. Ake rises but he's under it to much, and can only drift his header wide of the far post.

City are throwing different problems at Leipzig now, with Doku looking lively down the left. Just a reminder, a draw wins City the group if they can blag another here.

City are all over Leipzig as the visitors try to play out of the final third. Leipzig still look lively enough in the break, so this is fascinatingly poised as we approach the last quarter of the game.
