First shot at goal, and it's for Iceland - Bjarnason does well down the right, crosses, and Sigurdsson - Gylfi variety - works the ball out of his feet before shooting straight at Lloris.

Aaaaand the first foul of the game, Bjarnason knocking Griezmann over. He's one of nine on a yellow card, though credit where it's due, all of them being available for this game is a remarkable effort.

Payet curls in - it's a good delivery, obviously - and Sigurdsson falls over, winning a free-kick. Well played him.

And here we go - France get us underway, after a countdown that was genuinely moving.

One raucous rendition of La Marseillaise later and we're good to go!

Naturally, Iceland are unchanged.

Samuel Umtiti's Busy Week, as well as being the working title for a children's book I'm writing, is also a fact. A few days ago he signed for Barcelona; now he replaces Adil Rami in the centre of the France defence. That might suit all three parties best.
Nor is he the only change; Sissoko is in for the suspended Kante, an attacking move that might make for a more coherent team. Reasonably well though he's played - and for all the fuss, that's all it is - the only reason he's required is the dodgy defence in front of which he plays. On the other hand, Pogba in front of it instead sojunds like a waste to me.
