Italy, in blue shorts and white shirts, are wearing black armbands in solidarity with those who died in a terrorist attack in Dhaka last night. Germany in white shirts and black shorts kick off from left to right.

Germany coach Joachim Loew says his players must take any opportunities they can carve out against a well-drilled Italy side. It’s about a balance between defence and attack – you must create chances and you must take them, because against Italy you may not have that many,” he said. “The principle objective is to win the tournament and everyone has quality. I believe whoever wins tomorrow is the favourite to lift the trophy.”

Germany are the first side to keep a clean sheet in each of their first four games at a European Championship finals, and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says his opposite number Manuel Neuer is one of the stars of the tournament so far. “I think it would be a bit offensive to compare Manuel Neuer to a 38-year-old keeper – over the last 4-5 years he has really shown that he is an outstanding goalkeeper in every area,” he said.
