HALF-TIME! An eventful first-half comes to an end with Italy leading 2-1.

As good as Azerbaijan have been in attack, their defending has undone all their good work. They were caught flat footed once again.

GOAL - Azerbaijan 1-2 Italy! The visitors are back in front - Eder carves open the defence to play through Candreva who simply squares a pass to Shaarawy and he's left with a gaping net to tap the ball into.

The home goalkeeper concedes possession in a danger area but Candreva is unable to punish his mistake as he sends his cross into the stands.

It's a deep cross which is pretty comfortable for Italy to deal with. Less than five minutes to half-time.

And they've just won a corner...

Difficult to believe this is Azerbaijan playing host to Italy - they look decent!

MISS! A cross from Darmian causes havoc in the home penalty area - the goalkeeper, Medvedev rushes off his line but misses it, the ball falls to Shaarawy who somehow puts the ball over the bar from close range.

JUST OVER! El Shaarawy is inches from scoring his side's second of the evening as he takes down Bonucci's pass before firing just over the top of the crossbar.

Ouch...

Well, well, well, you have to say the hosts deserve to be level. Their tempo, particularly the pace of Nazarov, has caused the Italians all kind of problems.

Pelle loses his balance whilst in possession in the home penalty area and Azerbaijan manage to clear.

GOAL! Azerbaijan 1-1 Italy! Unbelievable, the hosts have equalised! Chiellini and Bonucci are involved in a mix up and the ball suddenly breaks for Nazarov who strokes the ball coolly past Buffon.

Not too much to report at the moment. Fairly scrappy in midfield.

Azerbaijan have the ball now but are playing at a snail's pace around the back line.

Eder is given a talking to after he catches Garayev with a late tackle. He escapes the book though. The referee has allowed quite a bit to go in the opening 25 minutes.

The corner is an awkward one for Azerbaijan to deal with but they do enough to clear it. Italy are still on the attack.

The lively Nazarov is caught by an Italian challenge and he is not one bit happy that he has not been rewarded an free-kick.

An organised Italian defence has frustrated the home side so far - Nazarov is the latest to be flagged offside.
