An organised Italian defence has frustrated the home side so far - Nazarov is the latest to be flagged offside.

In other Group H news, second placed Norway have taken the lead against Malta, 1-0.

Azerbaijan are passing the ball around now confidently and have probably had more possession than Italy. Not really doing anything with it though.

The resultant corner again falls to Eder who blazes the ball over the bar this time.

Nazarov breaks forward with pace but is unable to direct a cross towards a team mate. Plenty of intent and ambition from the hosts.

Well that goal is bound to knock the stuffing out of Azerbaijan who had started the match brightly.

GOAL - Azerbaijan 0-1 Italy! The Italians have the breakthrough on 10 minutes as Eder collects a defence splitting pass from Verratti and slides the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

SAVE! Azerbaijan have started the match in a really positive manner and they could have taken the lead through better finishing. Amirqulieyev curls a shot at goal but Buffon does well to make the save.

The hosts are seeing plenty of the ball in the early exchanges and I must say they have been fully backed by their fans who are making plenty of noise.

Buffon is forced into his first save of the evening and it's a fairly comfortable one. Amirqulieyev collected the ball from range and had a pop at goal but the shot took a deflection and it fell kindly to the goalkeeper.

Italy win their first corner of the game as Candreva's cross is blocked. The resultant set piece is worked to Eder on the edge of the penalty area but he sees his shot blocked and a free-kick is given to the home side to relieve the pressure.

The set piece is in shooting terrority for Candreva but he produces a poor cross instead and the chance is gone.

Eder is fouled by Sadygov on the edge of the penalty area and the visitors have an early chance here.

If Croatia don't beat Bulgaria then a draw will be enough for Italy to qualify this evening. The national anthems are to come and then we'll get underway!
