Iniesta sees a deflected shot dribble past Kozacik's post.

CHANCE: Costa gets in between two defenders to head Fabregas' cross onto the post. We have seen that combination before!

Casillas had to move his weight from right foot and then fling himself to the left to keep that shot from Mak out. Super stuff.

CHANCE: Casillas makes a brilliant stop to keep out Mak's volley from Pekarik's cross from the right.

Some nice keepball in midfield from Spain. Iniesta's pass to Juanfran is then cut out by Hubocan.

Weiss drops the shoulder on Juanfran on the touchline, but his reverse pass is too strong for Hamsik.

Spain players will know referee Kuipers - the Dutchman was in charge for the Champions League final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid last year. He has been a bit fussy so far tonight though.

Costa already looks a handful up front for Spain. Fabregas is pulled back by Weiss in midfield, and Spain win a free-kick.

Peter Pekarik concedes a corner under pressure from Costa, but Kozacik easily catches Fabregas' deep corner from the left.

Durica fouls Costa, though perhaps that should have gone the other way. Juraj Kucka gets a yellow card for an earlier foul on Sergio Busquets. A lively start to the match so far.

Gyomber, playing as a holding midfielder, fouls Silva on the right-hand edge of the Slovakia box. The Man City star's free-kick is awful and sails over Matus Kozacik's crossbar.

Former Man City and Rangers winger Weiss runs at the Spain defence but is dispossessed on the edge of the box and Juanfran clears.

Spain kick off from right to left, and we are off in Zilina.

Spain are in their usual all-red kit, Slovakia are all in white.

The Slovakian anthem is being sung badly, but gustily, by the players. Skrtel looks like an archetypal Bond villain as he roars out the anthem.

Slovakia and Spain last met in Bratislava in 2005 in the World Cup quailfiers. That match ended 1-1, with David Villa netting in the 71st minute to cancel out Filip Holosko's 50th minute strike.

Martin Skrtel speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the match: "We have started the qualifiers well and we want to carry on that way. There are plenty of rounds to play and we want to win as many points as we can, and we will see where we finish. Diego Costa is one of the best strikers in the world so I am looking forward to playing against him."

Bjorn Kuipers of the Netherlands is the referee at the Stadion MSK Zilina tonight.

Slovakia coach Jan Kozak has set up a well-disciplined defensive unit, and his side have kept three clean sheets in their last four matches, including last month's 1-0 win away to Ukraine.

Spain beat Slovakia 5-1 almost nine years ago. And there is one Spanish international who features tonight who played in that game. Step forward Iker Casillas.

"I have the impression, and maybe I'm wrong, that Diego is going to be very important for us," Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque told Spanish newspaper Marca. "I believe in his possibilities. He is going to be an important man. I have a lot of faith."
