Capello says he has devised a strategy to deal with Wales star Gareth Bale, who is of course the reigning PFA Player of the Year after a good season with Spurs. However, should England really be in fear of Wales, and Bale in particular? Not according to our Early Doors column this morning.

There are plenty of games across the continent tonight by the way, with Italy, Netherlands and of course Spain all looking to join Germany by securing their place in the finals. You can keep up to date with all the latest scores via our multiplex.

England's current home form is cause for concern though. They are without a win in four games at Wembley and a fifth would equal their all-time record, established in April 1981. The Wembley crowd has been notoriously judgemental in recent years and the newish stadium is anything but a fortress for Capello and his side.

The omens for Wales - who are missing Craig Bellamy and David Vaughan due to suspension - are far from promising. England have won their past three matches against Wales, including a 2-0 result in Cardiff in March that saw Lampard and Darren Bent score for Fabio Capello's side. Indeed, Wales have not beaten England since a Home Nations match in May 1984. Tonight's captain Aaron Ramsey was born six years later.

The situation is of course far less favourable for Wales, as they have only three points from five games and have no hope of reaching the finals in Ukraine and Poland next summer. But having defeated Montenegro, Gary Speed's rather raw side will be intent on securing another morale-boosting result at Wembley if possible.

While we wait for the full teams to come out, let's remind ourselves of the situation in Group G. England, 3-0 winners over Bulgaria on Friday, find themselves three points clear of Montenegro, who lost 2-1 to Wales in Cardiff last week. If England win today they will only need a score draw in their away game in Podgorica in October to qualify. In fact, even if they lose tonight then a score draw away at Montenegro will do.

Fabio Capello himself had hinted that Lampard's time as a member of the starting XI could be up, but the Chelsea man has scored in the first seven minutes in two of the past three games between the two countries. Perhaps his extra dynamism, and the threat of suspension to Parker, saw him included at home.

The headline team news is that Frank Lampard, written off in many quarters, returns to the England side in place of Scott Parker. Theo Walcott has also been left out as a precaution due to a hamstring concern, with James Milner taking his place to help shackle Gareth Bale.
