Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of Newcastle United’s FA Cup third round tie with Cardiff City, at St. James’ Park.

CHANCE - Newcastle again - M'bia flashes a cross along the face of the goal but no Newcastle player can connect.

CHANCE! - Newcastle - Ben Arfa twists and turns and shoots with his left foot - and it rebounds from the near post!

Sissoko fouls John to give Cardiff a free kick halfway inside the Newcastle half. Whittingham takes, but it's punched away by Elliott

Haidara crosses, nodded away by the Cardiff defence; Santon crosses from the far side but it goes too far and runs out for a goal kick.

Haidara races towards the corner flag, but he's stretching for the ball from M'Bia and he can't keep it in.

Ben Arfa tries a strike from just inside the area, but it's well wide of the Cardiff goal.

CHANCE - Cardiff: Whiitingham chips in a cross - Cornelius can't quite connect directly - but COWIE tries a volley and it flies over the bar.

Now Newcastle build again. Anita spreads it wide to Gouffran; Haidara crosses, it's nodded away, and Anita tries the shot - but it's too weak and easily cleared.

Whittingham is seeing plenty of the ball, moving it around intelligently.

Cardiff lose possession from their own throw-in, but Haidara plays the ball too long down the Newcastle left and it runs out of play.

Cardiff starting to play the ball around well now. Odemwingie lays it off to Kim who shoots - but it's high and wide.

CHANCE - Nice interplay from Cardiff - great effort from McNaughton! Just over by a yard... he doesn't score many...

GOAL DISALLOWED! Cardiff thought they had the lead - Hudson nods in at the near post from the corner, but Odemwingie is penalised for pushing.

Hudson clips a ball down the right hand channel; haidara is forced to concede a corner.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be asking Odemwingie to drop deeper to cover attacks from Santon.

Now Cardiff get some possession. Whittingham is the fulcrum; Cowie heads weakly under pressure from two defenders and Elliott collects.

Goal kick to Cardiff. Nice start by Newcastle, but Cardiff aren't giving them much room to work.

Sissoko chips in a cross, Turner heads away for a Newcastle throw-in.

Cisse is caught offside - Newcastle staring purposefully.

Newcastle break down the right... Tiote plays the ball forward, but it goes straight through to Marshall in the Cardiff goal.
