Newcastle drawn against Manchester City, United play Crystal Palace, Chelsea face Brighton in Carabao Cup third round

After Wednesday night's games completed the second round in the Carabao Cup, the third round draw took place. Newcastle United will face Manchester City in the pick of the draw, Manchester United will play host to Crystal Palace, Chelsea will play Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal will visit Brentford, and Liverpool will take on Leicester City at Anfield.

Newcastle United will host Manchester City, Manchester United will face Crystal Palace, Chelsea take on Brighton and Arsenal travel to Brentford in the Carabao Cup third round.
Last year’s winners Manchester United begin their defence against Premier League opposition with the biggest English sides entering the competition after Wednesday night saw the second round completed.
Manchester City, who have enjoyed regular success in the competition under Pep Guardiola, form one half of perhaps the choice tie as they come up against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
City have already played Newcastle at the Etihad, this season, with the Treble winners securing a 1-0 victory..
Chelsea will have the chance to field Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez and potentially Marc Cucurella against their former side Brighton, after Mauricio Pochettino’s side squeezed past MK Dons at Stamford Bridge.
There’s another all-top-flight match-up as Arsenal visit Brentford, and Aston Villa take on Everton after Sean Dyche’s side avoided an embarrassing defeat to Doncaster in the second round when new signings Beto and Arnaut Danjuma scored in the second half of a 2-1 win.
Liverpool will have to make do without Champions League football this season, but will be heavy favourites at Anfield against Leicester City, who are back in the Championship.
Wolverhampton Wanderers will play Ipswich at Portman Road, and Premier League new boys Luton travel all the way to Exeter.
Bournemouth host Stoke City, West Ham will play Lincoln, who knocked out Sheffield United on penalties, and Burnley will take on the Class of ‘92’s league outfit, Salford City.
Fulham host Norwich City, and Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough visit Bradford.
Third round matches are due to be played the week beginning Monday, September 25.
